Spend enough time in a casino, and players will share all sorts of “helpful” info. Today’s question is an example:
I was playing a 25 cent slot machine and won $800. I fled to my room, but on the way a woman stopped me to give me some advice. She said, “Never leave your slot machine right after you win. The slot machines will usually win again after a few more pulls.” After I left, she came in and won another $800 in just a few minutes. Can this be true? Is she the only person in Vegas that knows this valuable information about slot machines or was it just luck?

The way you pose the question, we suspect you know the answer. No, she doesn’t know anything the rest of us don’t. Can you imagine a scenario where there’s a secret way to beat the casino? Why wouldn’t players share this secret with others (many can’t help themselves with the things they have learned), and why wouldn’t the casino get wind of it?
The chances of winning that $800 prize are the same on any spin, even if it just has been won. The slot’s random number generator doesn’t factor in previous play when it comes to the outcome randomness.
Of course, for you to win that second $800 you would’ve had to press spin the exact moment she would have – a tall order for anyone. So your luck and her luck were just that, and she doesn’t know anything extra. Well, we should say “know” because she probably believes it, even if it’s not real info.
Now, we should acknowledge here that Brian Christopher does take back-up spins. But it’s not because he has any intel either – it’s just an approach. Some players get a bonus and walk; others keep playing, and others set a limit and get up so they don’t spend it all at the machine.
These are all choices, and none of them will have any impact on what outcomes come out of the machine. And so, we encourage you to make the choice you prefer. If you lock in that $800 win and leave, you’ve chosen a time that makes sense for you, your budget and your money. There’s nothing wrong with that given it’s your own entertainment spending in play.

When I’m fortunate enough to get a winning spin on a slot machine – one so large that will have me cashing out and ending that session – I always allow myself to have three follow-up “insurance” spins. I’m well aware of the RNG and the technology of slot machine itself, so there is absolutely ZERO logic associated with the decision to make those three extra spins, but every once in a while lightning does strike the same spot twice, and I want to be there when it does!!
You’re not alone in that Larry – Brian will often do backup spins as well for a similar reason, and it’s lots of fun when you do pick something up in those extra spins after a big win!
