Last year, MGM Resorts and Marriott announced a partnership that would cover their MGM’s U.S. casino properties, including the ability for Marriott members to book rooms at MGM hotels and use their points for bookings, and for high tier MGM members to be able to tier match to Marriott.
Now, a new announcement covers an extension of that partnership that covers their iGaming and sports betting operations, BetMGM.
When you play BetMGM by placing either sports betting wagers or playing online casinos, you earn BetMGM Rewards Points (BRPs). These BRPs could be used to redeem for online rewards such as bonus bets within BetMGM, or could be converted to MGM Rewards Points, the comp points that can be redeemed at MGM Resorts’ physical properties nationwide.
Now, a third option has been introduced – a one-way conversion from BRPs to Marriott Bonvoy Points. Those points can be used to book Marriott-connected properties all over the world. (The one-way conversion is important because there is not a way to convert Marriott Bonvoy Points to BRPs).
For those online players who would prefer to use their points for non-gaming activities, this is the rare partnership that allows you to leverage those earnings outside the casino ecosystem – this type of opportunity doesn’t come up particularly often.
The conversion rate of BRPs to Marriott Bonvoy points is 1:1 – that is, for every 1 point you convert from BetMGM, you’ll get one Marriott Bonvoy Point. Given you are able to generally redeem each BRP for one cent, and the consensus of travel sites is a Marriott Bonvoy point is worth 0.8 cents, there’s a devaluation in play (there often tends to be with these sorts of conversions).
For those who are hoping to be able to do so with the in-casino MGM Reward Points, stay tuned – MGM’s website references a two-way point conversion opportunity to be announced in the future.
