Las Vegas is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and stimulating places in the world. For the locals that call Sin City home, all that 24/7 glitz and glamour can be a great benefit, while also being an overcrowded inconvenience.
Because of this, Vegas and its accompanying suburbs play host to dozens, probably hundreds, maybe thousands, of local places to play. Local destinations typically offer more aggressive comps in attempts to create lasting relationships, overall has less competition for seats (especially at table game options like blackjack or baccarat), and are generally speaking, more convenient to access thanks to their off-Strip location and almost always free and ample parking.
Perhaps the biggest draw, however, is that these lesser known spots often come with a more personable experience, where team members quite literally know your name. Speaking from my own experience, I highly value when I can visit a casino and see familiar faces while making my rounds. I enjoy catching up with team members between spins, coyly smirking to the cocktail servers as they ask “your usual?,” and asking my host if they want to grab a bite or drink after a big win (or loss).
If your goal is to avoid throngs of people or to try and become a “regular,” consider trying out a new spot next time you visit town! To help, we’ve rounded up some favorite local spots below while fully recognizing that these hangouts are a dime a dozen. We want to hear where you like to play that’s a little off the beaten path, drop the name in the comments below and happy gaming!
Rampart Casino
For me, my local journey started at Rampart Casino, it was the first local spot in Vegas that I ever checked out. I ended up at this Summerlin casino because it was no more than five minutes from my house and had a very easy surface parking lot to navigate that was free. Once I ventured inside, I found the smaller floor to be less intimidating but still brimming with options that I’d come to find out were swapped out regularly to keep the floor nice and fresh.
Rampart is where I learned to correctly (and sometimes profitably) play blackjack. If you are a table games player, I find their centrally located table games area to be approachable and easier to access compared to tables on The Strip or even Downtown. The dealers are friendly and knowledgeable, just remember to throw a tip their way every once and a while like you should at any casino.
Over the span of calling Rampart my “home casino,” I racked up a pretty impressive list of jackpots including my first ever handpay. That first jackpot allowed me to pay for a semester of grad school in cash, my second my engagement ring, and the third was perhaps the most impressive- a $21,943.07 win on a $5 bet.
I frequented this casino at least once a week, often with my husband, for some gaming and some sort of comped meal. Rampart does have one of the last remaining buffets in town in addition to a steakhouse and other options. I was SO invested in this property that I even got married here. For a while, Rampart and my host were able to keep me engaged but something fell off along the way and I began to get way better offers and more personalised treatment elsewhere.
Suncoast
While I often talk about the perceived importance of a comped meal or experience, Suncoast is an outlier in my standard decision making when it comes time to choose a place to play. From my personal experience, I find offers to be a little lacking at Boyd properties strictly based on play and it was nearly impossible for me to talk to a host despite being a top tier card holder at Rampart next door.
I am a supporter of Suncoast simply for the “vibe.” I really enjoy the no-frills approach of the property, massive parking lot, and how expansive the floor feels as soon as you enter. While walking the floor, you can almost always get on the game of your choice and the cocktail waitresses rotate around at a comfortable pace. Suncoast also does an excellent job rotating in new titles while holding onto gamer’s favorite options.
After hitting the slots I also enjoyed the many dining options the property has to offer. My recommendation is the happy hour at 90 NINETY Bar + Grill, the nachos are some of the best I’ve had and I am not ashamed to say that I think of them often.
While I mentioned “no-frills” above, I do find it important to give the property credit for the improvements that it has started making. In addition to a major sportsbook overhaul, Suncoast recently opened a brand-new high limit room that is absolutely gorgeous and comes complete with a wide assortment of titles and its own bar.
Note: In most cases, you can ask to chat with a host and explain where you may already be hosted and ask for an evaluation of play. While this wasn’t the experience I had at Suncoast, I did land a decent jackpot just before moving out of Vegas and I was finally able to talk to a host and enjoy my first fully comped meal at the property.
Green Valley Ranch
Looking outside of Summerlin, one of the farthest locations that I would travel to is Green Valley Ranch. Unlike Rampart and Suncoast which are located northwest of The Strip, Green Valley Ranch or “GVR” is located south of the main action in Henderson.
I would make the journey out GVR’s way if I knew I wanted to play a large variety of games including new manufacturer releases. While Rampart and Suncoast do a good job keeping things fresh in their own right, visiting a Stations Casinos property provided a different assortment of titles and overall feel of the floor.
Green Valley Ranch is also a good option to keep an eye on if you are looking to catch a concert or something similar while in town. GVR has an eclectic rotation of visiting performers ranging from musical acts to internet personalities on the road- I caught Rhett and Link here a few years back. After checking out some new games or a show, Green Valley Ranch has many options for dining including a Vegas local favorite, Pizza Rock.
M Resort
I, of course, couldn’t leave The M Resort Spa Casino off the local list. Also located in Henderson, this PENN Entertainment property is a favorite due to its luxurious feel, an impressive floor complete with a substantial high limit room, an incredibly friendly team, and a comfortable hotel. While I am not a pool person, it is worth mentioning that The M also has a serene pool complex and during the warmer months you can catch some shows outdoors.
The M was one of the first places that I got a true taste for Vegas comps. After my first visit, they sent me delicious offers (both figuratively and literally) in attempts to lure me back. Lure me back they did, because despite playing with my standard bank roll, my offers at The M would consistently be double if not triple what I was receiving in the Summerlin area.
Speaking to this, one of my favorite Vegas memories is going on a “Supermarket Sweep” style shopping spree inside one of their grab and go outlets. Determined to use up my food and beverage credit, I was grabbing anything from ready made wraps to mugs, which I was delighted to find counted towards the credit. I loaded up two giant brown bags and returned to my car with a week’s worth of groceries… plus a giant ice cream cone to enjoy on the car ride back to my neck of the woods.
Bonus fun fact: A few years ago I was doing some midweek midday gambling (like the locals do) and randomly ran into Brian Christopher on the M Resort floor! This was before his smokefree casinos pledge, when he was there promoting an event.

This was a great read. Thank you for all the Vegas locals info here.
Thanks for checking it out Eileen!
