Sometimes, you leave with a slot ticket that you didn’t mean to leave with. And with the prevalence of machines now returning small amounts as a ticket, it can increase the chance you forget to cash out the one that matters. So, naturally, we get questions like this one:
Can I cash out my ticket at another casino?
Noreen
Generally speaking, you can’t. Each casino operates as an independent entity, operating under the rules of a particular market or state. Even if the casino is owned or managed by the same entity that also owns the casino where you’re ticket’s from, there can be a variety of situations that keep them from being able to cash that ticket.
This isn’t universal, of course. Sometimes when a casino closes, another casino is designated as the location to cash in old chips or tickets for a grace period before they’re done forever. Sometimes casinos within the same market can do certain things – the three downtown casinos owned by Derek Stevens (Circa, Golden Gate and The D) can redeem each other’s chips, at least at last check.
Instead, in scenarios where a player can’t get back to the casino to cash in a ticket, casinos usually have a process for mailing in a ticket for redemption by mail. (A similar scenario generally exists for sportsbook tickets.)
Casinos will sometimes offer this information on their website, but sometimes you have to contact them directly, either via email, phone or social media, to request the process and the information needed to mail it in. They may require information like a copy of your driver’s license, and the amount of the ticket may weigh on what processes are available.
So while there is usually a way to get a ticket cashed if you aren’t nearby, going to a casino close to you frequently isn’t the option available. But by contacting the casino, they can usually assist with getting you your money.
