Since we launched Flip The Switch we’ve talked about playing with your entertainment budget, and not overbetting relative to your bankroll. But some players don’t know what we mean by bankroll, so today let’s define a casino bankroll and why it’s an important thing to factor into your trip.
Your Casino Bankroll is, in short, your budget for the trip to the casino. This is what you set aside and earmark for the trip. This is where the entertainment budget part comes into play – it should be money you can afford to lose, and not needed for necessities like rent or groceries. It should be considered spent money.
The unusual thing about a casino visit is it doesn’t mean you have to lose it. There are certainly times when a player can leave ahead, or leave without spending the entirety of the money. But it is healthy to go in with the mindset that you are expecting to spend the money you budget.
A Casino Bankroll should factor in what you anticipate your bet levels to be. Going to the casino with $20 to play on slots at $1 a spin could be a quick trip. Sitting down at a $10 Blackjack table with $50 can be equally quick.
That’s because there can be real ups and downs as part of the journey of playing at a casino, and that’s why we also talk about calibrating your bet levels based on the bankroll you choose to bring. If you bet aggressively relative to your budget, you might find yourself running out of money before you get anything of note as a win.
And as slots get tougher, that can mean having more bets to try to accomplish something, in part because the rewards are often found in bigger, but hard to get, bonuses.
