There’s a couple of things around online slot paybacks that I find pretty exciting. One is that the games often will display their payback percentages within an online slot, something that NEVER happens with physical casino slots. That transparency can allow players like us to decide what to play based on the featured payback percentages.
The other thing that is generally true is, especially on lower bets, online slots offer a better return to player, or RTP, than physical casino slots on similar bets. That means that, over time, you’ll see your money last longer, presuming bet sizes that match in both environments.
While casinos don’t share individual slot payback information, in many casino markets data is reported and shared by the various casino commissions. This could be at a per-casino level, or a per market level. It could be shared per denomination, or as an overall total.
There’s enough markets that share info that can illustrate the difference. A lower denomination slot might feature an 88-90% RTP in many markets, whereas online RTP often starts around 95% and can build from there. The difference between 90% and 95% is you’d spend twice as much money, over time, on average, on a 90% slot vs. a 95% slot, presuming matching bet sizes.
So generally speaking, online you’ll see a more generous setting for payback online vs. in a casino. And to some degree it’s understandable why – there’s not a massive physical building with all sorts of amenities to manage in the online world. And that is why you’ll often see me trying my luck online with larger bets!
