We often have players ask us about whether something would happen if they didn’t change something on the game. Here’s a variation of that question:
Is the timing of bonuses based on bet amount? For example: I’m spinning 5.00, change my bet to 3.00 and get a bonus. Would that bonus have hit on the 5.00 bet?

Probably, but perhaps not. It’s not a very satisfying answer, we know, but here’s what we can share.
If you’re within the same denomination, the chances are pretty good if you hit the button at the exact same moment, it’s the same outcome, just with a higher or lower bet multiplier.
At least, that’s how most slots were designed back in the day. Changing denominations could change things up because other changes could occur, such as a change in the number of lines, or a change underneath the hood in a payback percentage, that could change what outcomes exist and their frequency.
As the slots get more complex, though, other factors can change even bet to bet. Some games use completely different reel sets per bet, meaning that the outcomes possibilities are different because the reels are different. Some games have uneven bet levels, boosting what’s in the bonus – so maybe the bonus would still trigger, but the outcome of the bonus relative to the bet might differ.
So it’s reasonable to assume that, all things considered, if you hit the button at the exact same time, most likely that bonus would have happened. But many times when people think about changing their bets there’s that little bit of a hesitation as they make the decision to change it, the moving of the hand from the spin button to the $3.00 bet button, etc.
So we discourage players from overthinking things like “if I hadn’t lowered my bet, I could’ve had a better bonus.” What’s done is done, and you don’t actually know in the end what the other outcome could’ve been, because you didn’t bet $5 you bet $3. Are you on a game where it would’ve happened either way? Just looking at it you wouldn’t necessarily know either.
So don’t stress too much about those things. If you lowered your bet because the game’s smacking you around, and now you got a bonus, at least you’re turning things around. It’s better than not getting it at all!
