On Bingo machines, found in many tribal gaming facilities, there is a bingo card present, because you’re actually playing bingo, and the slot reels on display are purely ornamental – for entertainment purposes only.
So with bingo being the central focus of the wager, the card matters in a way as it is involved in confirming whether you’ve won a particular game or not. Game makers also give you the option to change the card before any wager. What impact does that have?
Does changing the bingo card before every spin increase your chances of winning?
Homero R.
Similar to the ability of the spin button letting you stop the reels on a Vegas-style slot machine (or a bingo machine for that matter, given the functionality of the game), it’s an element that gives the impression of control without actual control of anything being offered.
That’s because the odds of getting a bingo pattern is the same, and the odds of any number being drawn the same, regardless of the bingo card that is active on the machine at the time you wager on a round of bingo. So it’s one of those placebo effect elements more so than anything else.
As such, changing the bingo card will neither raise nor lower your overall chances of winning. Some players like to change it to have their favorite number present, or like changing denominations to somehow try to change up something to improve their luck, but it doesn’t ultimately make any difference.
That said, since it doesn’t make any difference, it’s also harmless if you do it and it makes you feel better about playing, so we aren’t here to yuck your yum – if it’s something you like to do, feel free to do it! It won’t hurt you any more than it will help you.
