Sometimes you just need to play an easy to understand game without all the bells and whistles of more recent years. One of those slots is Konami’s African Diamond and luckily, there is an online version that you can play in legalized iGaming states without venturing out to a casino.
Chances are, you’ve probably seen this game’s landside version at a casino near you. African Diamond is a classic slot partially thanks to its player-friendly game design that doesn’t leave you scratching your head to figure out what’s going on.
Read on below to see how the online version of African Diamond stacks up to the version you may have played before. After getting filled in on the basic rules of the game, take it for a spin yourself and let us know how you did!
Base Game
African Diamond’s bet sizes are very approachable and customizable depending on your bet style and budget. The game does offer up the chance to pick nearly any denomination (1 cent, 2 cent, nickels, dimes, quarters, 50 cents, dollars.) For the sake of our article, we are talking specifically about the penny denomination. On penny denomination, you can choose to play a minimum bet of 30 cents up or swing for the fences with a max bet of $3.
This 30-line game features a five reel design that pays left to right when corresponding symbols line up. While the 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A symbols are present, you want to keep an eye out for the game specific picture symbols in order to score a big win. There are only four unique symbols; the butterfly, toucan, person, and gorilla. To get even more specific, the gorilla pays the most, so be on the look out!
African Diamond also offers up the chance for some nice line hits thanks to the wild Diamond substitute. The game’s wild namesake can appear on reels two, three, four, and five. It does not appear on reel one nor does it substitute for the African scatter symbol.
Moving onto an overview of the feature, three or more of the golden Africa icons will confer the Free Games bonus. If you land two, you do not get the bonus but the game softens the blow by paying out a scatter combination. More on the admittedly hard to get bonus below!
Free Games
The action really kicks up during the Free Games Feature. Depending on the number of scatter symbols you land, you could win up to 25 free games. Three scatters equates to 10 spins, four will give you 15 spins, and if you manage to land five, you’ll enjoy a whopping 25 Free Games.
No matter how many games you’ve won, you will enjoy that all line and scatter pays are doubled during the feature. Plus, you can win additional free games by landing more of the scatters during the feature!
