Many players don’t know the name of the slot Bao Zhu Zhao Fu, but they certainly know the game with its firecrackers prominently displayed on the screen, and rockets growing them. Effectively it’s another three pot game, visualized differently, and developed by Aristocrat, the company that popularized the format with Fu Dai Lian Lian.
This was one of the first games to attach the upgrade mechanic to a hold and spin format, so it has its place in slot history, and it’s now leapt to the world of online slots. Let’s review the game and where you can play it.
Base Game

Bao Zhu Zhao Fu is a 5×3 reel set with 25 pay lines. Aristocrat is finally tinkering with the bet levels for online variations; this slot had 88 credit bet increments in physical casinos, but is set to only 48 credits online. This means the minimum bet is a more accessible 48 cents for players with smaller budgets – we’re on board with this.
There’s 10 pay table symbols, along with the wilds that appear on reels 2-5. There are also rockets, in three color variations, that are the triggers for the bonus and the three upgrade possibilities, matched by color.
There are four jackpots here – in the online version they’re all flat (there are progressives incorporated on the physical casino version). They are accessible during the hold & spin bonus. They adjust with denomination, so the chances of winning any of them are the same at each bet level.
Bonus Boost Feature

The game has a Bonus Boost feature, prominently labeled next to the game’s name on many of its logos, which effectively speaks to the upgrade potential.
The upgrades attach to the hold & spin bonus, which follow by default the standard rules – you get three spins to land another credit prize or flat jackpot. Do so, and the spin counter resets to three. Fill the board or go three spins without another prize landing, and the bonus concludes. Filling up all 15 spaces yields the Grand bonus jackpot.
The three rocket colors are linked to three different upgrades – when a rocket is present it can trigger the matching bonus upgrade.

Rockets with multiple colors present on the same spin can trigger multiple upgrades, so there’s 7 total possibilities for the bonus, with one upgrade always guaranteed, but the chance to have two or all three upgrades. The upgrades are:
- Ultra Spins (Purple): After each spin, credit prizes can be added to one or more held prizes.
- Double Up (Red): You get two sets of reels, each with its own spin counter. Filling either board awards the Grand, but you can win it twice by filling both.
- Extra Spins (Green): The traditional three spins counter is augmented to four.
Winning multiple upgrades combines the two features. So for instance, Double Up Extra Spins yields two reel sets, with a four spin counter attached to each.
Like most triple pot games, the best scenario is closing all three, since you can upgrade held prizes, have more spins to land more, and have two reel sets worth of spaces to fill.
