Enter a casino and you’re likely to be able to spot the Buffalo slot machine series scattered throughout the casino floor. The series has been a mainstay and popular string of hits for its game maker, Aristocrat, in part thanks to rules that are maintained throughout the game series.
The original set the tone, establishing the baseline that is leveraged for all the other games. But on its own, it remains an incredibly popular game, still found in ample supply on many a casino floor, and now recently has made its way to online casinos.
Buffalo Slot Machine Base Game
The game features a 40 credit, all ways pays game model, which means you don’t need to line symbols up on particular paylines, just get them on successive reels. The use of clumped symbols can amp up the payouts by having 2-3 symbols on reels so you get paid multiple ways for your line hits.
Buffalo symbols pay best and are also clumped, giving the opportunity for some pretty nice line hits when you get a lot of them.
Free Games
But things get amped up when you get three or more coins to trigger the free games. The more coins you get, the more games you get:
- 3 coins: 8 free games
- 4 coins: 15 free games
- 5 coins: 20 free games
During the free games, if you get a wild symbol (which appear in the game on the middle three reels), a 2x or 3x multiplier will appear on it, amping up the line pays and increasing the chances of big wins in the free spins bonus. With 3 wilds appearing, you can get as high as a 27x multiplier.
You also can retrigger with as little as 2 coins; 2 coins yield 5 free games. Getting more coins yields the same number of spins on retrigger as would be awarded in the original trigger (so 8 games for 3 coins and so on).
The game still holds up today, even with its more volatile and diverse children now occupying the casino floor and online casinos, and with the ability to play as little as 40 credits a spin, it can also be a great low roller game.
