Celestial Sun Riches was a bit of a unique game when it hit casino floors. The unusual reel set, the special reel area in the center that could boost bonus symbols and wilds, and the potential for some pretty exciting wins all made for a different sort of game experience.
For those with the budget, the online version delivers on that same potential. The game has been simplified in structure a bit, but at the expense of lower bet levels being missing.
Let’s take a look at the Celestial Sun Riches slot machine and where you can play it with real money online!
Base Game
Celestial Sun Riches has an unusual 3-4-4-4-3 reel set. It’s an all ways pays game, so it has 576 ways to win.
Online the middle three reels constitute a special reel area where wilds and bonus symbols get upgraded. In casinos you can choose how big that area is, but online it’s fixed to be all three of the middle reels.
That comes at a cost, as the minimum bet is 200 credits, or $2 on the penny denomination. This makes it one of the more expensive games to play for lower betters, inching up towards some of the higher denomination options, and this is just penny denomination!
Konami games online have a more traditional betting interface of select your denomination and bet amount, so you can get up to quarter denomination and a 10x bet multiplier for a mere $500 a spin.
There are 11 pay table symbols here, 5 premium symbols and 6 poker symbols, not counting the wilds and bonus symbols. So while the reels are taller in the center, there’s a lot of competing symbols to attempt to line up.
Special Reel Area
So what are you paying for with that special reel area? Quite a bit actually.
- Wilds (which only appear in the middle three reels to begin with) now gain a multiplier of 2x or 3x. With the all ways pays and the wild multipliers, a good line hit can become quite massive.
- Bonus symbols gain a wheel feature. If the bonus is triggered, each bonus symbol that appears within the special reel area adds a wheel feature spin.
So while pricey, these upgrades make a difference, both during the base game and on bonuses.
Wheel Feature
The wheel feature, which occurs each time a bonus is triggered with at least one bonus symbol in the special reel area, boosts the bonus outcome in various ways. One wheel spin occurs for each symbol in the special reel area when a bonus is triggered.
With a minimum of three symbols triggering the bonus, and three out of five reels being in the special reel area, you’re going to get at least one wheel feature spin per bonus.
The upgrades include:
- A credit prize to kick off the bonus with a win
- Additional free spins
- An upgrade to the wild multipliers
Free Spins
The number of free games you start with (before any Wheel Feature upgrades) depends on the amount of triggering bonus symbols:
- 3 symbols: 7 free spins
- 4 symbols: 12 free spins
- 5 symbols: 20 free spins
During the free games, all wins are by default doubled. A certain number of spaces on the middle three reels the free spins reels also become mystery symbols, replaced by one of the symbols. This can include the multiplier wilds (since this is in the special reel area) or the bonus symbol, increasing the chances of a line hit or a retrigger.
