The creator of Dancing Drums is responsible for the popular follow-up the Coin Combo slot machine series. Fans of Dancing Drums will certainly find Coin Combo Hurricane Horse familiar, given their similar heritage and structure.
At first glance, the biggest change is the series caved to the popular three accumulator (that’s those things that keep growing and make you think it’s due) but the games actually went in a few new directions.
Today, we’ll focus on the Coin Combo Hurricane Horse slot machine version, and go through what makes it unique.
The Basics

All of the Coin Combo slot machine series games have a number of things in common. They generally do away with the gold symbol bets found on previous generations, such as Dancing Drums, in favor of a simplified bet structure where all gold symbols are active. This means all progressives are active as well. (It’s possible casinos still let you choose the number of gold symbols in limited cases, but traditionally that’s not what I’ve seen on casino floors.)
All of the games are 5×3 reel sets, with 243 ways to win thanks to the all ways pays format – no paylines here, just like its predecessors. The game features a lot of stacked symbols.
Penny denomination keeps the traditional 88 credit bets, but these are all multi-denomination games now, so you can bet higher. The game now features flat mini and minor bonuses instead of progressives on the previous games.
Persistent Wilds
One unique aspect about this game is that on any wagered spin, wilds can appear on the screen on the latter reels. Wilds can persist for a couple of spins; each spin the wilds move up one space on the reels. If they show up on the bottom space of a reel, they can stick around for three spins.
Wilds are persistent on the exact denomination and bet level, so if you change bets, they will stay put where they were until the next bets made at that denomination/bet level. That could yield a small opportunity if there are a lot of wilds left behind, but the line pays have been watered down to account for such a large opportunity for wilds.
Wilds can come out on any spin, even if there’s already wilds on the board, increasing the potential of a lot of ways to win. But all five premium symbols pay exactly the same, so there’s no true value in getting one over another – you just want a lot of a single symbol to get a good payout.
Closing the Pots

One of the biggest changes is there’s now three pots at the top of the screen. There’s also now three different colored coins. Whereas the older games would have the opportunity to close the pot whenever a wild land, this now shifts to the coins.
The pot that can close matches the color of the coin that appears. If more than one coin color appears, multiple pots can close on the same spin, like other three pot/bag/fish/etc. games. However, unlike other games of this format, the three pots don’t all just function as a bonus upgrade.
Progressive Pick Screen

The red pot functions as it did in the past; when it closes you go to a predetermined prize pick screen. Three matching symbols yields a prize. However, there’s now 15 symbols, with the three added allowing for a prize upgrade.

When this happens, the Mini prize becomes the Minor, the Minor prize becomes the Major, the Major progressive becomes the Grand, and the Grand progressive becomes the double Grand!
Free Spins Bonus
The blue and green pots both trigger a six free spin bonus that incorporates the wilds on every spin. Here the wilds don’t stick around, but a new batch comes out every spin. How many wilds can appear each spin depends on which pot(s) closed:
- Blue pot: 3-6 wilds per spin
- Green pot: 5-8 wilds per spin
- Blue and green pot: 7-12 wilds per spin
Ultimately because the wilds only appear on the last four reels of the bonus, those 12 wilds basically guarantee five of a kinds with every symbol that lands on the first row, with 81 ways to win each, because of the structure of the game. Even with the watered down line pays, it can add up.
During the free spins red coins can land. The coins can offer credits, the Mini or Minor, or 1-2 additional spins. In addition, like in the base game, any red coin can close the red pot and yield a progressive pick screen.
