The Fortune Coin slot machine by IGT puts a new spin on the concept of “cash on reels,” the industry term for showing numbers on symbols that can be collected by a player.
The most common presence of these is awarded during the Hold and Spin, where you have to get a certain number to start the bonus, and then you can collect more numbers.
Fortune Coin dispenses with all that and has a simple concept – they land, you win!
Let’s take a look at the game, and where you can play it online today.
Base Game
Fortune Coin is an all ways pays game, meaning there are no lines – symbols just need to appear on consecutive reels. This can add to the volatility, but also add to the potential payouts. Here’sa n example of a line hit that didn’t even reach the fifth reel.
The reels consist of poker symbols, premium symbols (which pay higher amounts), a wild symbol, bonus symbols and coins. Symbols are stacked, so you have the chance to land multiple on a reel, increasing the overall pays when they match up.
Fortune Coin Feature
The coins do a lot of work on this game, as they award their prize instantly at the conclusion of a spin – you don’t need a certain amount of coins to win the prize. The prizes can include:
- Credits – often small prizes but occasionally bigger ones, understandably structured since they pay out more often
- Progressive pick – a chance to move to a progressive pick screen for a prize
- Free games – free games can be instantly awarded
Progressive Pick Bonus
This predetermined bonus shows 15 symbols to pick from, and you work towards collecting one of four progressives. Three matching symbols awards a progressive.
The wrinkle is that boosts can also be revealed, that raise the value of the progressives. So even the Mini can be pretty healthy after being boosted a couple of times.
There is also an elusive but possible Award All option, which can award all of the progressives. But it’s a rare one to come out, given the sum of the four progressives.
One thing to note is the progressives do differ by bet level, unlike many games out there.
Free Games
Free games can be awarded when three or more bonus symbols appear, or can be awarded as a coin prize. Free games eliminate the poker symbols, so it’s only the higher paying symbols, bonus symbols (for a retrigger) or coins.
Coins can award more free games in the bonus, or trigger a progressive pick, just as they can in the base game.
