If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Hot Hot Blazing Lock is definitely flattering a smaller game maker who’s seen a lot of near-clone games coming after it in the past year.
To date, we’re only aware of this game being available online and social casinos, but it was also showcased at G2E for physical casinos too, so you’ll likely be able to play this in casinos before too long.
Let’s take a look at the game, and where it’s available to play online.
Base Game
The game features a 5×3 reel set, but with 15 independent reels. 14 of the reels feature poker symbols and premium symbols. The 15th reel, dead center, features only poker symbols and the Hot Hot flame, which is wild.
The Hot Hot flame can come into position randomly if it doesn’t land naturally. It can throw coins up into the pots. It awards any jackpots and coins that are on the other reels. And it can trigger the free games. So it’s going to do a lot of the work on this game.
The game has an odd 66 credit bet increment, but that follows in line with the game that inspired it. The four jackpot prizes change proportionally with your bet level.
One thing that’s a little frustrating with the game is the 2 second pause at the end of a spin, particularly on losing spins. Light & Wonder has lots of little quirks like this with their games but it serves to make the game feel really slow. Hopefully they can work on these things over time.
Symbol Rewind
If the wild Hot Hot symbol doesn’t land, the reel can randomly rewind to make him appear. On spins where he ultimately does appear, other reel spaces can rewind to award credits or jackpots.
Since the Wild symbol is present, this also means those credit prizes and jackpots will be awarded, a helpful aspect to boosting wins in the game.
Free Games
The wild Hot Hot symbol can throw coins into one or both pots above the reels. They can grow incrementally (a form of perceived persistence, which doesn’t offer any specific indicators) but if they grow all the way to full size, which happens at random when coins are thrown in, free games are awarded.
6 free games are awarded for each bag that fills up to the top, so up to 12 free games can be triggered at the onset, and retriggers are possible in the free games.
During the free games the wild Hot Hot symbol is locked into the middle reel, so all credit/progressive prizes are awarded, as well as any line hits that are helped along by the presence of the wild Hot Hot symbol. It can throw coins into bags for the potential to retrigger. Certain spins the Hot Hot flame on the left can amp up the chances of coins and jackpots to land as well.
Buy Pass
Buy Pass is Light & Wonder’s buy a bonus feature. You can instantly buy a bonus for $19 for every $.66 your base bet is, which is about 29x your stake. With that bonus price, you shouldn’t expect massive bonuses to occur very often.
The version we reviewed listed a 96% RTP, so a bonus in the 28x average range sounds about right for that price. For those who prefer to get right to the bonus, that’s an easy way to do it.
