Lightning Gorilla by Lightning Box is part of a line of hold and spin games the company has produced. There are a couple of wrinkles though, with a more open-ended bonus since spaces open back up, and the use of active reels to determine prizes you can collect.
Let’s take a look at how the game works, and where you can play it with real money online!
Lightning Gorilla Base Game
Lightning Gorilla is a 40 line game, so the minimum bet to cover all lines is 40 cents – higher than some other games we’ve looked at but still accessible for this sort of game.
The jackpot prizes don’t change below $2 a bet in the version we reviewed, but begin to increase proportionally as you exceed a $2 bet. This indicates that $2 bets and above have the highest chances of winning those prizes. However, as flat jackpots vs. progressives, the wins will be proportional to the bet at most levels, and will be balanced at those lower bets.
Lightning Respin
Six or more lightning bolt symbols with prizes will trigger the hold and spin. This has a unique structure though – the prizes are moved off the board, clearing the reels for other prizes to land.
Each spin at least one reel, but up to five reels, are highlighted with lightning, and those are the active reels. If at least one prizes lands, those are moved off the board, the counter reset to 3, and the next spin (and new active reels selected) move on.
Colossal Lightning symbols can appear on the reels as 2×2 or 3×3 sized – if they land in an active space, each reel space then turns into a prize. So, if a 2×2 lightning with an 8x prize appears, that 8x prize is awarded for each active reel space it lands in. Should it say “Jackpot,” each space gets a jackpot prize, either the Mini, Minor, Major or Grand.
In a bonus round we got testing out the game, we ended up collecting 30 prize for just shy of 100x our bet amount – quite a good outcome given it took less than 50 spins to trigger it. Clearly we ran well, but it was a fun bonus to encounter on Lightning Gorilla.
It’s worth noting this is the only bonus, so there’s no free games or anything else – all the money is in the respins and the base game line hits.
It’s also worth nothing that since the prize are moved off with each spin, there’s no landing the Grand prize by filling the board. In this case, the Grand is just another prize that can be on one of the Lightning symbols. Of course, it’ll be the hardest prize to win.
And the final thing to be aware of is the game caps wins at 2,500x – so if you manage to do better than that in the Lightning Respin bonus, it will cap your overall prize. Sometimes online games do this to contain the range a bit and ensure they can offer crazy bonus potential.
