AGS has over the past year or two dipped its toe into the three-reel slot format with games like the Mega Diamond slot machine. They’ve followed the path of many slot makers in developing games that utilize jackpots and wilds to deliver potential.
On casino floors, the wrinkle they added is a multi-denomination format that shares jackpots. Online, it works differently, but the games still offer some real potential.
So let’s take a look at Mega Diamond, one of their three-reel games, and where you can play it online for real money in the US!
Base Game
Like many games of this format, it’s a 9-line game with no bonuses to speak of. All the money is in the base game. This means line hits tend to be more generous as the money isn’t spread around so crazily.
The minimum bet we’ve found for this game covering all nine lines is $0.45, for 9 nickels. This is certainly a higher denomination format in casinos, but it is great to see more flexibility for the online casino space.
The game defaults to $2.25 but you can change the coin size down to as low as 5 cents. You also can choose between 1, 3, 5 and 9 lines, meaning you could spin as low as 5 cents per spin if you wanted to.
The pay table symbols are pretty simple – there’s three varying colored 7s and two bar symbols, the classics. Mixed 7s and mixed bars pay, albeit less than if you matched up the same symbols.
There’s also three wild symbols that can help complete lines more easily. Matching any three wilds pays the base level jackpot, while matching three of the same color pays a higher jackpot, that depends on the color matched up.
Also found on some symbols is a watermark with a multiplier. These run from 2x to 5x. The way the game is structured you can achieve up to 100x win if the right multipliers line up with the right symbols.
One major differentiator is instead of progressives for the three of a kind wild prizes, they are flat prizes that adjust based on the amount of the coin size, and do so proportionally. So whereas on the physical casino version your chances for winning one of those prizes would increase with bet, here that advantage is neutralized by the flat jackpots and the changing with the bet.
And that’s about it really – with no features or bonuses to speak of, the chase is those three wild prizes. The top three-wild prize is a bit over 100x your total bet, and even symbols with the multipliers don’t appear to be able to reach 1,000x your bet, so the game isn’t going to be particularly volatile either, good for those who may want to play something less tough.
