The Lightning Box series of Lightning games were a success online, so it stands to reason a follow-on series would result.
Thundering Tiger is a part of that line, and a lot of the game will look familiar to fans of the Lightning series. But an Upgrade to the Respin bonus adds a fresh wrinkle that can increase the excitement.

Base Game
The Thundering Tiger slot is a 5×3 reel set with 243 ways to win, as it does not rely on lines but instead all ways pay. Bet increments are 48 credits, making 48 cents minimum bet – unusual, but not unreasonable for a game in this format. It won’t be the lowest bet you’ll find, but it does offer a lot for that price.
There’s a lot of pay table symbols here – 11, with six poker symbols and five premium ones. There’s also the wild symbol found on reels 2-5, as well as scatter bonus symbols and scatter cash on reels lightning bolts.
The slot features for jackpots, two of which (Mini and Minor) are flat prizes, and two of whic (Major and Grand) are progressives. On the lowest bets the Mini and Minor don’t change with bet, so your odds improve of winning them as you bet up. However, at a certain point they grow proportionally with your bet, so the chances don’t improve any further at that point. The Major and Grand are the same size across all bet levels, so your chances of winning those two do increase with your bet.
Lightning Respin
Land 6 or more Lightning symbols to trigger the Lightning Respin. This is similar to a traditional hold and spin bonus – you have three spins to land more prizes – do so and the counter resets. This is an open-ended bonus, however, in that you collect the symbols, they move off the board, and you can land more prizes in those spaces.
Another wrinkle is only certain reels are active each spin – the prizes must land in an active reel to be collected. Finally, colossal symbols of 2×2 or 3×3 can land, which transform into the prize on each reel space. If the bolt is a jackpot, it breaks into multiple jackpots as well. Since you can’t fill the board, all four jackpots are awarded on lightning bolts in this bonus. All jackpots (including progressives) can be awarded multiple times; if awarded multiple times the reset value is the prize for any subsequent jackpot wins.
Upgraded Respins
On any spin, a lightning bolt can trigger the upgraded respins, indicated by the explosion of the Lightning Cloud. This cloud is a perceived persistence element, meaning its size has no influence over when the bonus will trigger.
Upgrades can add more lightning bolts to start the bonus. The upgraded bonus also offers two boards to collect prizes. The active reel feature is in play here and will be the same reels for both boards of a given spin. One lightning bolt on either board is enough to reset the spins counter back to three. All prizes collected on active reels of both boards are awarded.
Otherwise this works similarly to the Lightning Respins.
Free Games
Three or more bonus symbols trigger the Free Games. More bonus symbols offer more free games as follows:
- 3 bonus symbols: 8 free games
- 4 bonus symbols: 15 free games
- 5 bonus symbols: 30 free games
During the Free Games, colossal symbols can appear on the reels, similar to how they do in the Lightning Respins, but here can include certain pay table symbols as well. Colossal symbols appear only on reels 2-5, so you still need to get a helpful symbol on earlier reels to connect.
Lightning Respins can be awarded during the Free Games. Retriggers are possible, but with only 3 or four of the bonus symbols.
