The Timber Wolf slot machine is one of those games that has stood the test of time. In the same general world as Buffalo (and developed by the same company, Aristocrat), it has been the subject of many brand extensions and sequels.
But the original lives on, both on casino floors, and now online as part of real money casinos. Let’s dive into why the game has survived for so long, and share where you can play it online.
Base Game
The Timber Wolf slot machine is a 5×4 reel set with all ways pays (no pay lines) and a 40 credit bet increment, meaning the minimum bet is 40 cents, in line with what you’d find for the game in the casino.
There’s 10 core pay table symbols which include 5 poker symbols, 4 semi-premium symbols and the 1 Timber Wolf premium symbol. This is similar to Buffalo, which has the primary symbols and the four semi-premium symbols as well. There’s also a bonus symbol, the Owl, and a wild symbol, the moon.
Moons appear only on reels 2 and 4, and act as a wild symbol, helping to connect the clumped symbols for wins.
Free Games Feature
Three or more Owl symbols, starting from the leftmost reel, will trigger the Free Games feature. The moon wild symbol can substitute for the owl to trigger the bonus. More owls pay a higher trigger bonus.
Triggering the bonus yields 12 free games, which work similarly to the base game except the moon wilds now serve as wild multipliers. Reel 2’s moon has a x3 multiplier, whereas reel 4’s moon as a x5 multiplier. Connect a win with both on the board and it’s now x15.
If a moon is on the reels for a spin that does not yield any line hits, a respin will occur to offer another opportunity at a win.
Free games can also be retriggered during the feature.
