When we talk to players, free play is a big incentive to visit a casino, but it isn’t the only one. Many players value the potential of a free room to stay on property, vs. having to drive there and back, or book something outside the casino grounds.
How can I get free rooms at casinos?

The very simple answer is to gamble enough to qualify. Like any other casino offers, they’re extended based on your previous play, and the calculation the casino makes (generally referred to as Average Daily Theoretical, or ADT) of how much they think you’ll spend on a future visit.
Based on that amount, they’ll usually extend offers valued at somewhere between 20 and 40 percent of your expected gambling spend. That incorporates free play, rooms, food and beverage, and anything else (such as gifts) they might extend.
With that in mind, if you play enough, free rooms are likely to become an opportunity you can take advantage of. Even if you don’t reach the level of a free room, a discounted room may be available, which certainly helps bring the cost of a visit down.
One thing to keep in mind about rooms is that the value of a room varies widely. If you’re looking for a room at the Venetian or the Wynn, the amount you’ll need to play will be very different than getting a room at the Luxor or the Flamingo.
Some of the casinos here in California where we’re based have hotels with rates that often exceed $500 a night, an indication of both the quality of the rooms as well as their scarcity – both are on properties with more limited hotel sizes than other places we’ve visited around the country.
What many players don’t know is that the rate advertised to anyone is not what the casino rate will be – that’s why the discounted rate is possible to begin with, and the discount can build based on your level of play. But getting a $500 room night comped isn’t easy either, so it’s important to have reasonable expectations about what you might be able to get with your gambling budget.
For some, it may not be worth gambling that much to get a room. For others, they may already qualify, but aren’t always using their card. So always remember best practices (don’t pay for comps, but get the comps you deserve for your play) and take advantage of the discounts or free rooms if it makes sense for you!
