Slot machines used to be pretty simple affairs, but over time a number of aspects have become more complicated, making a question like today’s a touch more difficult to answer (but of course not impossible, because we’re tackling it now):
How do you know you are playing the maximum amount on a slot machine?

Traditionally, the bet panel on a slot machine has a set of betting options. The largest option, also known as the max bet, is all the way to the right, so generally selecting that one will get you the biggest bet amount.
To help, many machines and bet panels also have a max bet option, which can ensure you’re betting the biggest amount as well, although it generally doesn’t tell you on that button how much that top bet is, so there’s a bit of a potential surprise element if it’s more than you were expecting.
That said, a couple of wrinkles that have now developed.
The big one is denomination. You start on any multi-denomination machine by selecting which denomination you’re going to play. The denomination is a declaration of how much a single credit is worth on a machine.
A max bet within this situation is the max bet for that denomination, not necessarily for the machine. So if you want to truly max bet when it comes to the machine as a whole, you need to start by selecting the highest denomination, and then the maximum bet for that denomination, to ensure you’re doing what you’re hoping to do.
The second is that on some bleeding edge games like IGT’s Tiger and Dragon and Everi’s Cha-Ching, the bet panel actually has multiple sections on it. So you have to make sure you’re first on the tab with the biggest bet options and then select the biggest bet at that point.
So, usually it’s the bet farthest to the right or hitting the max bet button. But you do need to double check things like denomination to ensure you’re truly betting the maximum a machine will allow.
