As a standard setter, the Lightning Link series of games established a rule that many slots that have come after to it have followed. In a Hold & Spin type bonus, get a prize on every reel space, and you’ll win the Grand jackpot!
However, this is not the case on some machines. Mighty Cash is a prominent example, where a full board just awards a multiplier, wheel spin, or some other upgrade. Another game series that went a different direction is the Lock It Link series, which incorporates Huff N’ Puff.
That leads us to today’s question:
I filled all the screens with all HATS on huff and puff. I was playing minimum bet, so do you have to play max bet to get grand? Or it doesn’t matter, you get it only on the coin?

The Grand progressive jackpot is available on any bet on Huff N’ Puff and its sequels. The chances of winning it increases as your bet increases. How you win it is specific to this game and a sister, Hold On To Your Hat. To win it, you have to:
- Get the free spins bonus
- Land hats on the same reel space at least three times to upgrade to the gold border (for a mansion)
- Then the mansion has to reveal a Grand jackpot.
On Huff N’ More Puff and other variations where there’s a wheel, the Grand jackpot is also available as a space on the wheel. For this series, it’s the same for the Major jackpot – it’s also won as a prize opportunity only on Mansions, so you have to follow a similar path for a shot at the Major.
In neither case is a full screen of anything required; the Grand jackpot path is entirely different.
The rules for each of these prizes will be written out in the information screens on the slot, and we readily admit to referring to those quite often when player inquiries come in. So if you ever wonder why something went wrong, that’ll be an easy place to check while you’re still on the machine.
But we know you’re not the only one who may be curious, so we’re also always happy to answer them here at Flip The Switch – just submit your question for an opportunity to have it answered by our team!

now , i’m not a conspiracy theorist, but recently while on vaca watching a “local” (where i was playing at a casino) he was doing something shady, or otherwise knew the code to change the bet, he was winning on EVERY H&EMP machine he played on. i tried to watch, but he was a mean big ol angry guy who spoke in harsh spanish and told me to go away, he doesnt want to be watched…i did keep walking by, seeing him hit on all 4 machines filling every square with mansions, and winning jackpots on each machine (within 1 hour- all4)!
i kinda figure the higher the bet, the more chainsaws ??
Rest assured if there was some sort of trick that could lead to a slot always being a winner, casinos would catch wind of it and the slot makers would take the machines out of service pretty quickly. New slot data is constantly monitored and if the slot is consistently outside the expected range, it’s a red flag. If there was some sort of a trick out there, word would spread – we see the forums and the chatter about these things. So no, we would expect that they think they have a system, and maybe they were having a lucky day, but ultimately they’re working against the same house edge as the rest of us. Slots aren’t skill games and loopholes don’t last in an industry where precision is the order of the day.
