The two main casino companies have an annual gift program that occurs at the end of each year in Las Vegas. One of those is the MGM Holiday Gift Shoppe. It’s visible in the MGM Rewards app, and you can earn points regardless of where you play across the country in MGM’s ecosystem.
But many people don’t know about it, or what it is, so we see a lot of questions about it:
What are MGM Holiday Gift Points?

Along with tier credits, MGM Reward Points and Slot Dollars, you also earn Holiday Gift Points, which accrue at the same functional rate as Slot Dollars – every time you earn $1 slot dollar, you earn 100 Holiday Gift Points. You can also earn Holiday Gift Points while playing table games. Multipliers run at times to give you the chance to earn more Holiday Gift Points.
Holiday Gift Poibts value differs from Slot Dollars, however – it takes 30,000 Holiday Gift Points to redeem for $100 in free play, for instance ($100 is the minimum amount for which you can redeem, although you can redeem in $50 increments above that). So that’s an important aspect to keep in mind as you look at the bucket and wonder what you can redeem for.
An example of a prize that requires less points on their website is brand name watches, but that still requires 13,000 points and that’s the floor – it’ll only go up from there.
At the 5,000 point level you can take a chance in a slot tournament for a chance at prizes, if you don’t have enough points to redeem for an actual gift or prefer to take a chance at something else. You also have to be physically present when the Holiday Gift Shoppe is open, which is generally in early December.
So, for bigger players in particular, it’s sort of an extra nice to have bonus, as long as you’re able or willing to be in Las Vegas during the window the Holiday Gift Shoppe is open.
It should be noted Caesars has its own variation of this sort of program. The earnings and redemption work a bit differently, but it too takes place in Vegas at the end of the year and rewards bigger players for their play throughout the year.
