Players are always hoping to find a sign – something that will tell them it’s the right machine to be on to have a winning session. If only there were a way…
How many spins does it take to know if you’re on a winning machine?

Technically, it’s the spin that puts you ahead instead of behind. Nothing more, nothing less.
Slots are designed to make money for the casino thanks to its built-in house edge. That means in the long run, it’s going to be a winner for the casino and not us.
So identifying a winning slot is not something that can be done by looking at it, because inevitably they will at some point hit a point where they are a losing proposition, and the more spins you take, the more likely that’s going to be the case.
Sometimes players will point out there’s slots where meters grow and it can become a scenario where it’s expected to make money for the player in the short term (dubbed an Advantage Play). But even in those scenarios, it’s still not a guarantee – you can still lose playing machines in that state, just as a card counter at Blackjack can still have losing sessions. So even machines that offer helpful information aren’t a guaranteed success.

But in a way that’s part of why people enjoy slots – when wins happen, and sometimes they can be exceptional wins, it’s not what the slot’s supposed to do in the long term, so when we do get ahead, it’s exciting and fun. And sometimes, a slot can provide multiple wins in short succession, creating momentum that’s hard to ignore.
But you won’t know that momentum is going to happen until it happens, so in that way it’s one of those things where it’s best to go in looking to have fun, not make money, and when those wins happen, celebrate them and enjoy the moment for what it is – a deviation from what’s expected to happen.
