If you’re around slots enough, you might hear players talking about retriggers. In fact, one of Brian Christopher’s earliest slogans was Bonus. Retrigger. Repeat.
But what is a retrigger? Well, let’s start with the term Trigger. Slots tend to have bonus symbols on the reels. When the right number appear in the right places (or scattered on the reels, depending on the game’s design), that’s designated the Trigger required to earn a bonus.
Therefore, a Retrigger is an event where you get enough symbols to trigger an additional number of spins, or perhaps even another bonus, again depending on the game’s design.
Retriggers take a variety of forms. On games like Huff N’ Even More Puff, three hats deliver an additional spin, along with the normal upgrades the hats offer during the bonus. On the Buffalo series of games, Retriggering is easier than getting the bonus, as only two coins are required to Retrigger for more spins.
On some games, a Retrigger can mean collecting another bonus to play right after the one you’re currently playing. This can happen on many bag-style games like Fu Dai Lian Lian or Gold Fish Feeding Time, where you can pop another bag or pot to trigger another bonus afterwards.
Retriggers can be quite substantial, such as big spin counts on game series like China Shores by Konami, or Planet Moolah by Light & Wonder. These games can provide hundreds of free spins either on the trigger or Retrigger (or both!), making for a lengthy bonus when you get particularly lucky.
Ultimately, these features can be great as it gives us the opportunity to enjoy an even longer bonus, and in turn let you sit back, stop making bets, and enjoy the rewards of a longer bonus.
So that’s why Retrigger is such a popular term to call for while playing slots and particularly while in the bonus!
