We’re back with another round of slot machine tells! This round, we have one that was intentional but is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention, while the other is one that’s probably unintentional but will giveaway a bonus is on the way.
Pop’N Pays Pinatas Ole
Pinatas Ole is one of three themes for the original Pop’N Pays series, which saw an extension come out, Pop’N Pays More.
With the Pinatas Ole version, it will give you an indication a better pop is about to happen:
When the game shouts “Ole!”, it means either a progressive is being awarded, or a big prize. This differentiates from the more traditional sound made before the pinatas pop on this version.
Interestingly, we didn’t spot the same sort of tell on Big Top within the same video when a progressive was coming out. So this is something that may just be limited to the Pinatas Ole version.
Gold Fish

The original Gold Fish is still around in some casinos 20 years after release, and even was remade under the name Gold Fish Classic a few years ago. But it’s the original version, still out there on casino floors, that has this tell.
On this version, the volume control is located at the upper right corner of the screen, a common location for WMS games of this vintage. On any spin, a random bonus can be triggered, leading to one of five bonuses.
Here’s the tell: When a random bonus is coming, the volume button will disappear. However, the game will sometimes be completing other steps first like awarding line hits. While it’s going through that process, before it declares the bonus at the top of the screen, you’ll know it’s coming if the volume button has disappeared!

Firecracker slots have a tell. When the bottom of the screen goes blank instead of the normal 50 lines or game over that shows it means you have hit a bonus feature.
Many of the pot/firecracker/etc. games have variations of this tell – if it says Game Over while the objects are flying up into the pots, there’s no bonus coming, for instance. Good call!
