We get plenty of questions that are variations of when is the best time to play slots. The answer, of course, is whenever it’s convenient for you, because the odds of winning don’t change based on what day you’re at the casino. But this is asked in a very specific way, and so we want to tackle it accordingly:
Statistically, which day of the week do you think the casinos pay out jackpots over $1199.00? I have a friend who has won 5 jackpots (all over $1200.00) this year and all the same type of buffalo game and all on Saturday? Good timing or what?
Sherry
While your odds as a player won’t change based on when you play, statistically more jackpots will occur when a casino is busiest, because more activity is going on – there’s more bets being made, more spins being played out, and therefore since some X percent of those will be jackpots over time, having more going on means more of everything, including jackpots!
Similarly, when Powerball jackpots grow, and more tickets are being sold, the chances of someone winning the Powerball jackpot increases, not because your chances on any individual ticket are better, but because there’s more tickets out there, of which one or more can be a winner.
When it comes to your friend and the jackpots falling on Saturday, it’s probably timing, but if your friend favors Saturday trips, that will certainly help to put the thumb on the scale. All being the same type of Buffalo game can be helped by the fact that as a volatile game Buffalo can be predisposed to jackpot a bit more often at the expense of other smaller wins – so it can be more feast or famine, depending on the bet.
There are slots that are designed to either never offer a jackpot, or almost never jackpot, by design! So it also is fair to assume some are designed to deliver more jackpots, but at the expense of smaller wins making it harder to survive on a machine between bigger bonuses.
So ultimately, play what you want to play, when you want to play it – timing won’t make any difference about your chances of winning.
