Since the beginning of my time offering livestreams on my channel, I’ve often had support to ensure everything runs smoothly. With thousands of people tuning in, try as I might I can’t see all of the chats coming through while also putting on an entertaining livestream. Here’s a question that allows me a moment to recognize those efforts:
Brian, you always thank your YouTube moderators. What does that person do?

When you join me for a live stream you’ll see a number of people interacting, answering questions, and so on.
Under the @bcslots channel handle name will be one of the members of our team that assists with our various social media platforms. They help out those with questions about the livestream, our events, merch, and so on. They help keep the conversation focused, and on the occasions where particularly rude or inappropriate comments are left, they’ll remove them to keep the chat clear for those watching.
That’s also a lot for one person to address with thousands of people watching, so I’ve long had a group of moderators that have helped support my internal team. As has been the case for most of the channel’s existence, all of our moderators are longtime members of our Rudies fan club.
Our current roster of moderators (Anna, Bridget, Carol, Heather, Miles, Noelle, Sheilah and Vicki) have been Rudies for many years; most were Rudies within the first year and have been moderators for much of that time.
As Rudies, they have an understanding of how things work and where to go to register for events, cruises, newsletters, etc., so they’re a natural fit to help others who are looking for that information. They’ve also become trusted helpers to many Rudies over time because of their familiarity within our Rudies community.
We rarely add new moderators at this point because all of them have been dedicated to the cause for a long time. Sometimes, life happens and on occasion we choose a new moderator to fill the spot of one who decided to move on.
I often get asked what criteria I use for choosing moderators. Being a Rudies member for multiple years is a must; all of the moderators I select are also people who I’ve built a friendship with over the years, and am confident of their ability to be a friendly, professional and helpful resource for those in chat who have questions.
