Many publications, such as newspapers or magazines, will have awards programs, letting their readers vote and awarding the winners an award. It’s often linked to a revenue generating program to get people to pay for the right to use the information in ads, but that’s a whole other story.
Today’s question wonders if there’s any valuable information to be gleaned from these sorts of programs:
Are Loosest Slots awards really trustworthy? Context: I tried chasing down the info on a casino and could never find the actual test they did to legitimize it. I’m wondering how they do it.
Garet N.
We looked into the casino in question, and it was an example of an award tied to a newspaper’s collecting votes from their readers. Usually these voting scenarios are open to the public and allow daily voting, so it’s far from scientific.
In this case, when it comes to actual proof of loosest slots, it’s not scientific at all. In the example of this newspaper’s poll, no one’s looking at whether this casino actually pays more than another. It’s simply collecting votes from readers and those who choose to show up and vote. So it’s something entirely different.
Now, there can be value in playing where other players like to play and vouch for. The perks may be good. Players may actually find themselves winning more there, and in aggregate and over time that can actually have value.
But casinos are also very good at encouraging their more loyal players to vote on their behalf, especially those with good marketing programs, so that can come into play as well. And, well, players can be really loyal of casinos, and not all players agree as to what makes for the best experience.
So ultimately, you can’t glean specifically helpful information from these polls. It’s great marketing, but doesn’t give you anything concrete that confirms the slots are looser.
By comparison, there are scenarios where slots can be verified as loose. Or casinos will market their slots are looser than the average in locations where the average payouts are public. But generally those will be distinct and different from “players voted us loosest in the 2024 awards,” and that’s the difference to watch for.
