Here on the site we’ve shared information in recent years that the hold and spin bonuses on the Lightning/Dragon Link series of games, as well as the Fire Link bonus on Ultimate Fire Link, relies on the random number generator and is not predetermined upfront. We were asked how we knew this:
Just curious…what evidence do you have that timing of the spins in the Dragon Link hold and spin…or free games for that matter…has any effect on the outcome?. Everything I have heard is that the bonus amount is predetermined upon the initial push of the button that got the bonus. You are the only slot influencer who claims that such timing is of any consequence. Has a slot developer of this specific game indicated such to you?

One of the fun aspects of what we do here at Flip The Switch is we’re able to talk to game makers and the companies that release them on a pretty frequent basis. As such, we also are able to ask the questions players want to know.
Specific to the question on Dragon Link, Aristocrat hosted an event for creators at G2E a couple of years ago. Since we had access to people in the know, we asked if the hold and spin was predetermined or was based on the timing of the button press.
The unique thing about the hold and spin bonus is your need to press the button, which can sometimes be an indicator that a player’s action has an impact, and in fact that timing does have an impact. Now, we don’t know if that impact is better or worse than pressing the button at a different point, but we did confirm that button press mattered.
We similarly confirmed the same around Ultimate Fire Link in a separate conversation around the same time. That doesn’t mean all hold and spin style bonuses by all manufacturers work the same way, but in the case of these very popular games it was confirmed to be the case.
Of course, that may be one reason why Brian is able to confidently share this information in his videos. We were able to verify the information, and with that in hand he can speak to it with more authority.
That’s one reason why Flip The Switch is such an important element of what we do – we can leverage your questions to ask the game makers what you’ve wanted to know. As such, we encourage those who have questions to submit them – we’re always happy to ask game makers on your behalf when we don’t have a clear answer!
