One of Brian Christopher’s favorite phrases is “Big Numbers Attract Big Numbers.” This is in reference to the series of games by Aristocrat starting with Lightning Link, that has now expanded to cover a half dozen variations over the past decade or so.
The hold and spin bonus triggers when at least six numbers (known in the industry as “cash on reels”) lands on a single spin, triggering the hold and spin bonus. A player gets three spins to land at least one more number; the bonus ends when the three spins occur without getting another number, or all spaces are filled with numbers, which then awards the Grand jackpot progressive along with the prizes that landed.
While Brian has yet to get a Grand jackpot on this series of machines, he has had some pretty impressive moments. One way this happens is when the game brings out a higher range of numbers on the reels, which happens on a minority of spins, and where Brian’s phrase derives. So today, let’s look at a few examples of that.
Early Lightning Link Example
Here’s one of the first instances of Brian using the phrase during a Lightning Link bonus:
As you can see, against his $7.50 bet. The bonus triggers with multiple 10x and 20x prizes upon the trigger. While he only picks up two more numbers, one was 4x and one was another 20x.
The final bonus of $660 against a $7.50 bet is a strong 88x bonus.
50x Prize to Launch the Bonus
Here’s another earlier Lightning Link example but on an even lower bet of $5:
This time the trigger includes a $250 ball, 50x the prize. During the bonus another one lands, along with a 20x $100 ball, and a couple of smaller (but not 1x) prizes.
As you can see, there’s a minority of the time a bonus that keeps the prizes elevated, yielding a larger end outcome than the bonus would traditionally deliver. Here a bonus of $940 is 188x his bet!
Big Start, Big Finish
This time, the bonus starts a bit more flashy, with a 100x prize ($500) on the trigger of this $5 bonus:
The prizes aren’t as consistently big to start, but they certainly picked up momentum as the big number attracted some friends, including a 20x $100 ball. This one yielded $905 on a $5 bet, 181x his bet.
A Dollar Storm of Big Prizes
Let’s stick with one more $5 bet, but this time look at a bonus on Dollar Storm:
The trigger brought a couple of good sized numbers, with a $25 and a $250 prize against a $5 bet. But the bigger numbers came out to play as the bonus progressed, with two $50 and a $100 prize landing during the hold and spin. The final total was $555 – 111x his bet.
Time to Up the Bet
Now let’s take a look at an example at a $25.00 bet – 100 credits on the 25 cent denomination, this time on Dragon Link:
This time, on the trigger, every prize was at least 10x. After a couple of smaller prizes, dropped, another 20x prize lands. While not as many prizes lands here, the $2,750 bonus is still a respectable 110x the bet.
A Bonus That Builds
Back to Lightning Link for another example, at a $25 bet on the 10 cent denomination:
Some good prizes land to start, and then some more big prizes land to keep things going. The $1,550 outcome was another decent result, with a 62x total.
Group Pull Victory
Here’s a final example during a $75 a spin group pull on Dollar Storm, which took place during a Brian Christopher Slots Cruise:
The trigger included 3 10x and 2 20x prizes, and 15x prizes kept coming out during the hold and spin bonus. All added up, the bonus yielded $10,350, a sturdy 138x the bet.
