My YouTube channel is designed for entertainment. With 30 minutes of video released daily, plus nine shorts and two weekly live streams, that’s a lot of content. Some people take away patterns that may not even be there:
Why do you ALWAYS pick the fewest spins on the bonus?????
J.G.
For this question, J.G. is referring to the games where you can pick which type of bonus you want to have. I do often, but not always, pick less spins. There’s two reasons for that.
One is that I’m a gambler by nature (love the work you do, right?), and picking less spins with bigger multipliers, reel heights, and so on has the potential for something more exciting to happen. Of course, it could fail to show up, but that goes with the ups and downs of gambling.
But the other reason is that I’m also entertaining others with the content that I film. And so those exceptional moments are fun to share with you as a viewer as well, and so it can make for a more exciting moment when everything works out.
And listen, when I’m live in front of 10,000 people watching and I ask everyone in the chat which one I should pick? The majority say the lowest and most volatile one (I assume because it’s not their money and they want to see what would happen!)
The thing most players may not realize, and why my colleague posted about it recently here on Flip The Switch, is that while any one bonus may work out differently, they all have the same return to player (RTP), which means over the long run it evens out.
With less spins I’ll see more really bad AND really good bonuses. Picking less spins means I’ll see more medium bonuses with less really big or really small scenarios.
Because RTP is about the long run, short term differences happen. Picking less spins (other than a mystery choice if available) has the most volatility – bigger potential, but less often, than a more steady ride.
Ultimately it’s my choice, and I choose the more volatile bonus because it’s more fun for me, and based on your feedback it tends to be more fun for you as well. But it is just my choice, and I encourage you as players to do what’s comfortable for you.
Since it’s all going to even out in the long run, make the selection you feel matches what you get the most entertainment value out of, given that’s the point, and enjoy the bonus you’ve earned from your play!
