We’ve received a few questions on this general topic recently. Specifically, many players get confused about when you qualify for progressives. On many games, you qualify at any bet, but many don’t understand this.
Here’s an example of an inquiry we received that confuses those requirements:
I would like to hear more about the bets that are played on machines. There are machines that you’re not eligible for a Major or Grand like Piggy Bankin’ or Eureka Reel Blast unless you’re playing max which many people can’t play.
Player Inquiry
Let’s start with some good news for this particular player – the games mentioned actually don’t require you to bet the maximum to win the Major or Grand at all. In fact, we have experience for this right here within our staff, as one of our staff members won a $12,500 Eureka Reel Blast Grand jackpot on a $1 bet, which was the minimum bet on 2 cent denomination.

In fact, many games in the casino nowadays do not require a max bet to be eligible for those top jackpots. Instead, the chances of winning the progressives increase proportionally with your bet.
Many games, like Link games and Mighty Cash, make the progressives available at any bet. Brian Christopher’s fan club, The Rudies, has had a number of posts over the years from members showing a Grand progressive jackpot won on 50 cents, for instance. Brian himself won a Grand on Mighty Cash with an 80 cent bet.
Other games, like 88 Fortunes and Dancing Drums, do not require you to bet max but do require all the gold symbols to be active, yielding an 88 cent bet to be eligible for all the progressives.
For many of the truly big progressives, like Megabucks, you need to be betting at least $3, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to max bet the game either. Some newer games, like Megabucks Mega Vault, have bets higher than $3, but you can still be eligible for the Megabucks prize on that $3 wager. Of course, betting more will simply increase your chances, however small those chances ultimately are.
So ultimately, going back to the crux of today’s question, on many games you can win the Grand on a minimum bet, but not all. This is why it’s important to familiarize yourself with games a bit and take a look at the rules to make sure you’re betting enough to activate all the features.
While there was at one point a helpful rule of thumb that you should always max bet a slot machine to have all features and pays active, that’s not always the requirement today – in fact, the majority of slots don’t require a max bet to get all opportunities unlocked. So given that, you should verify what level that is, and then if you wish to bet above that level that’s certainly your choice, as it does improve the chances of those big payouts hitting.

I won an $800 Major on Rakin Bacon betting 88 cents and won another Major for $1,000 on Rakin Bacon betting $1.76, so it can definitely happen!!
That’s wonderful! Those majors can come in real handy on small bets!
My first hand pay ever was o. Buffalo Diamond. .75 cent bet. $1323.40. Was pretty awesome
It’s those type of wins that are unforgettable!

Thanks Jodilynn! Look for a newsletter to pop up every Thursday!
I hit a $1800 Major on Dancing Drums Explosion on a 88 cent bet and a $1100 Major on Dragonlink on a 2 cent denom 1 dollar bet so its possible.
Those are some nice wins, David! Thanks for sharing your experience!
I won a $29,000 Grand on a $3 minimum bet on 10 cent denomination. It’s possible, y’all….it’s just all about timing. :)
Amazing Rebekah! We love stories like this!
I hit $22,900 grand on a $5 bet
Now that’s a nice return on a $5 spin! Congratulations to you!
I mostly play at the minimum bet because I like to be able to play longer. That being said, I’ve won the Grand twice (each over 17k) on Heart Throb playing a 50 cent bet! I’ve also won lots of Majors (500 – 800) on 50 cent bets. So you can still win big even on small bets.
It’s a great reminder that you can win big jackpots on small bets, especially playing the right games where you’re eligible for it.
I hit the Grand twice on a 50 cent bet. 1 for $10,800, and the other for $14,000.60. A lot of Majors, Many hand pays also.
That’s great outcomes Bob! We’ve seen in our Rudies group a number of Grand jackpots on small bets, so we encourage those who think it can’t happen to stay positive – it’s certainl a possibility!
