One thing that’s been fascinating about our time chatting with players on the topics that make their way to Flip The Switch is how the same topic can be viewed differently by different people. Take this question:
Why when we know a machine is on take mode do we sit there thinking it’s gonna turn around lol
Nikki M.
First, let’s do our Flip The Switch thing, and remind that a machine on “take mode,” or other similar terms like hot or cold slots, is a look back at what’s happened, not what could or will happen.
Slots have independent outcomes, and regardless if the last 100 spins were duds, or the spin right before it was a jackpot, the chances of any outcome the machine is designed to offer happening on the next spin are the same.
Now, to your question, there’s a group of players who feel the opposite way – if they’re going on a losing streak, a slot is “due” to pay. But that is the same problem – it’s analyzing what happened and trying to guess what happened next, when what happened has no influence on what will happen.
Brian Christopher has shared the example of players who watch him play and lose, and then jump on his machine expecting to win because of how much he lost. But that has no impact as to what will happen when they sit down.
So even if you’ve had a bad run, sitting on a slot from that point is, from the slot’s perspective, not going to be any different as when you first sat down. (Certainly, emotionally, we’ll feel different about our losing streak, but the slots aren’t programmed with emotions.)
