It’s the most wonderful time of the year – at least for sports bettors and NFL enthusiasts. We are just over one week from the biggest game of the year, pitting the Seattle Seahawks versus the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. The Seahawks are decisive favorites, who the betting market can’t get enough of. While the sharpest minds are extracting value from the traditional sports betting lines, the prop market is exploding.
As is typically the case, sportsbooks are releasing a smattering of unusual and typically unavailable wagers ahead of the big game. We’re breaking down the latest offerings and where the money is flowing.
Gatorade Bath Color
Of the purely speculative markets, no bet commands more attention than the Gatorade Bath Color. Bettors are already lining up to get their money down, with two colors clearly leading the way.
After a few days of action, ‘Yellow/Lime or Green’ and ‘Blue’ remain the betting favorites. As it stands, the lemon-lime variety is garnering a whopping 28.7% of the ticket count, edging out second-place blue by over 6%. With that, the sky-colored varieties account for 21.7% of the handle, with ‘Yellow/Lime or Green’ coming in at 21.0%. Both colors are holding steady at +260 on the prop board.
Despite the public adoration for two of the betting favorites, sharp bettors are lining up to get a piece of ‘Water/Clear’. So far, over 12.6% of the betting handle is coming in on a colorless bath, representing just 5.3% of the tickets. That represents some high-money wagers. Likewise, the ‘Purple’ handle (20.5%) to ticket count (19.1%) also reflects more substantive money changing hands. At +1100 and +750, respectively, bettors are clearly value hunting.
Alas, it’s ‘Orange’ that remains the clear frontrunner on Super Bowl Sunday. BetMGM is holding steady at +225, with 8.5% of tickets and 14.1% of the handle coming in on the classic flavor. Unwilling to upset the current flow of money, expect those prices to hold steady until next week.
Will There Be Overtime?
Value bettors are gravitating toward another plus-money prop between the Seahawks and Patriots. Will there be overtime? Most of the money points to ‘Yes’.
In 59 previous Super Bowls, only two have gone to overtime. Albeit, with both of those coming over the last 10 years. In Super Bowl LI, this same Patriots franchise bested the Falcons 34-28. Subsequently, the Chiefs mounted a furious comeback in Super Bowl LVIII, taking down the 49ers 25-22.
BetMGM currently has ‘Yes’ priced at a pocket-lining +750. That’s the carrot bettors are reaching for with most of their wagers. Over 95% of tickets, accounting for 98% of the handle, are coming in on ‘Yes’. With ‘No’ priced at -2500, don’t expect a deluge of money coming the other way.
Exact Score Market
As is the case with any game, bettors are trying their hand at predicting the exact score. Inferences can be made with the line and total information, but more often than not, games diverge from these expected paths. Nevertheless, there are five specific outcomes that bettors are betting on most.
Leading the way, bettors are betting most on the Seahawks to beat the Patriots by a score of 24-17. That +10000 price tag is appealing for a variety of reasons, fitting within line projections while also representing one of the most common scoring occurrences. Similarly, Seahawks 27 – Patriots 24 (+8000), Seahawks 27 – Patriots 17 (+12500), and Seahawks 24 – Patriots 20 (+15000) are among the other top five most bet props.
For those leaning toward New England, there is only one exact score that cracks the top five most bet props. Patriots 27 – Seahawks 24 is the third-most bet outcome, attracting bettors with its +12500 pricetag.
Seattle is holding steady at -4.5, and the total is hovering at 45.5. Naturally, exact score bettors are channeling their wagers toward those suspected outcomes.
More Than Enough to Choose From
Those three markets are just the amuse-bouche for the rest of the betting markets available. Coin toss is always a Super Bowl favorite, choosing both the team to win the coin toss and ‘heads’ or ‘tails’. Scorigami is a burgeoning, if not niche, offering. For the uninitiated, it represents a score that has yet to happen in an NFL game. First score type, will a player record an octopus (touchdown plus a two-point conversion), and will either team score on their first offensive possession are just a few of the other markets commanding attention in advance of Super Bowl LX.
Final Thoughts – Wager Responsibly
Bettors of any ilk can be overwhelmed by the amount of wagering options available. While the temptation is to get a piece of every pie, it’s important to be thoughtful about your wagering amounts and types. Speculative markets can be a fun way to enhance the last football game of the year, and they should be treated as the entertainment wagers they represent.
So, with Super Bowl LX quickly approaching, enter the betting market responsibly and enjoy the clash between the Patriots and Seahawks.
