If you’ve never been to Las Vegas, or perhaps haven’t gambled there much when visiting in the past, you may hear stories of players getting complimentary rooms and wondering how you too might be able to get a comped night while staying there.
There’s a variety of ways that this can be achieved, and depending on where you’ve invested your time and money in the past you may have more of a chance of staying in Vegas for free than you realize.
Gamble in Las Vegas
The most obvious approach is the first option. If you go to Las Vegas and you gamble enough, subsequent Las Vegas trips will be encouraged with the offer of a complimentary room, among other things.
It may not be fully comped, however – Las Vegas is particularly notorious for its high resort fees, which may not be waived on your comped room – but sometimes those are waived too, depending on the offer or your tier status.
Gamble at Properties with a Relationship to Las Vegas
If you don’t live near Las Vegas, you may live near a property with ties to Las Vegas. Major companies like MGM, Caesars, Boyd and Wynn have properties outside Las Vegas, and if you gamble at their regional properties they may very well send you an offer to stay in Las Vegas. You also may earn comp dollars that could be redeemed for hotel rooms in Las Vegas, if the offers themselves for Las Vegas don’t surface.
Other properties without any ties to Las Vegas at all will sometimes make an arrangement with a Las Vegas partner to offer rooms to their players as well. This could be in the form of invites to pick up offers, similar to how cruise line vouchers are given away, or being able to make a comp reservation if you’re at a certain play level or tier status.
Use Your Hotel Loyalty Points
A large percentage of the hotels on the strip in Las Vegas have some sort of tie to a hotel program, making it possible to earn and redeem your hotel loyalty points for free rooms. Some examples include:
- MGM Rewards and Cosmopolitan with Marriott
- Caesars Rewards with Wyndham
- Resorts World with Hilton
- Rio to partner with Hyatt post-renovation
If you haven’t earned comps outright, it can be a way to get started until your actual play yields offers from casinos.
Target Your Play for Comp Nights in Vegas
One final tip – it can be exciting to visit Las Vegas for the first time, and want to gamble at places all over, but the flip side to spreading your money around is that you won’t put up much of a showing for offers.
So, one of the best ways to get comp nights in Las Vegas is to concentrate your play at one property or group of properties (playing at all MGM or Caesars casinos, for instance).
It doesn’t take a lot of play to begin getting some room offers, but if you put up a good showing they’ll incorporate extras, such as free play or food credit to go along with it, which only helps when budgeting for the next trip.
Takeaway
There are a surprising number of ways to score free rooms in Las Vegas, and so it helps to evaluate what options may be available to you to avoid spending money you don’t have to spend. With those savings, you can re-allocate that money towards other activities while you’re there, making the trip that much more enjoyable!

Hi Brian I’ve just been at plaza hotel and love your smoke free area I found out that I’ve get pay tax on winnings of 30% tax I like to know how I get tax back from irs in USA as Live in New Zealand we don’t pay tax on are winnings here can you help me please Jeremy Maton
Hey Jeremy – we don’t know specifically for New Zealand but we’ve heard from players in Canada who say services exist that will help them file with the US to claim their winnings back. It may be worth looking for a firm locally who can help residents like yourself – there will be a fee involved but it usually will be less than the amount left behind.
