And just like that, it’s a wrap! Global Gaming Expo, also known as G2E, blows by so quickly each year, but it’s also a very productive few days and an opportunity to connect with a wide variety of industry experts, many of whom who you’ll hear from over time here at Flip The Switch.
With the conference officially concluded, here’s a few final thoughts from the final day (Thursday) on the expo floor.
Thursday Felt Busier This Year
While the conference normally revs down Thursday and as such the final day is often quieter, it didn’t feel as quiet this year. People were hosting meetings right up until the buzzer at 3 p.m., when the expo hall closed (ourselves included).
It was nice to see so much activity even at the last minute. We were also appreciative of the time all the booths gave us, even in the midst of a busy week, to catch us up on what they’ve been up to.
Industry Jargon FTW
Every year we hear some new industry jargon. We already shared Triple Metamorphics, which other makers were calling “Three Pots” or “Persistent Pots.”
But we also heard other new terms we loved this year:
- “Precog,” or “Pre-recognition,” is the animation or announcement that something big is about to happen, like a bonus or big win. Brian Christopher viewers will also know this as a “Shaky Shaky” and we’ll probably stick with that ourselves.
- Catalyst symbol is the one that makes something happen, such as pays get collected. If you don’t have the catalyst symbol, the reward will not be offered.
Huff N’ Even More Puff
Need we say more? Except there’s also Huff N’ Extra Puff coming, so get ready. Huff N’ Even More Puff is slated for a first half of 2024 release.

Hi Josh.
I was delighted to finally be introduced to you by The Slot Cats-Heidi at G2E this year.
When touring the booths, I also noticed the abundance of “bag games” in some variation this year. Why not join the bandwagon if it works. In my opinion, games that use a celebrity, movie, TV show, board game, sport will not get high marks from me, I will try the game all the same. Creativity and development is what makes a slot game last. I do give a shout out to those manufactures that have improved their graphics and visual aspects of the games and games taking a risk ,out of the norm, highlighted at G2E. I am avid about manufacturers placing the play/start button on both left and right, middle or all three areas, of their cabinets customer play area so those with handicaps can push the play/start buttons without reaching beyond their capabilities and wish more companies would offer this. In the end, games should be designed to attract the customer and hold their interest in the game throughout their play. Time will tell for the games being introduced in 2023/24.
Hey Cheryl! It was wonderful meeting you at G2E as well! It was a mixed bag for me as well – I can’t say I left G2E quite as excited as I did last year, but there’s definitely some games that I think are pushing the envelope in good ways! I also do like a Spin button on the left side, although I am not against using that space for a (working) phone charger. But some manufacturers manage to incorporate both, and I hope that trend continues!
Great info, Josh!
I just think “Shaky-shaky!” Is a lot more fun to say rather than “Precog time…”
Lol
It certainly is more fun for us to say! Of course it’s also fun to learn how those who make the game identify these things! Every once in awhile they begin to adopt our version so who knows – perhaps next year they’ll be calling it that :)
