Here’s a question we got from a reader around free play and point play:
Free Play and point play and the machine’s program. Does it change? Have you won on free play?
Robert O.
Thanks for the question Robert! This one’s an easy one – the machine doesn’t change what it does based on the type of credits that are in the machine.
When a casino selects its payback setting for a given game and denomination, it only can set one setting, and that is universal regardless of the type of credits that are in the machine.
That means the machine doesn’t differentiate between free play, a ticket, cash, etc. And so you can rest assured that when you’re playing on a slot machine, it’s behaving the same regardless of what you put in it – there’s simply nothing in the programming that would allow it to differentiate.
And can you win on free play? Of course!
Here’s just one example of Brian Christopher playing on his free play, max betting on the penny denomination version of Dancing Drums, and turning it in to more than the amount that he had in free play!
Remember that slots, whether on cash or on free play, can vary widely in outcomes. You can get a handpay, or lose your butt, on any single session. That’s because of the range of outcomes they’re designed to deliver.
Meanwhile, Free Play tends to be a small part of a players given session, and depending on how it’s played, it can often be exhausted before a bonus or big win hits.
That’s why we always recommend playing it like any other part of your bankroll, as it just gives you a longer runway to find those big wins, bonuses and features.
