Megaways games have specific characteristics that make them fun to play, and Almighty Buffalo Megaways is no exception. With up to 117,649 ways to win and cascading reels, it has all the basic things players want. But then layer on additional features you don’t always find, and it gets a bit more interesting.
The game is by White Hat Gaming, which recently was the first company to have their games present in all seven states that allow for iGaming as of this writing, a significant accomplishment for the company!
Let’s look at Almighty Buffalo Megaways in detail and discuss where you can play it online.
Base Game
Like most Megaways games, Almighty Buffalo Megaways is a six reel game with variable height reels. Minimum bet on this game is 20 cents, similar to many games in this format, which is helpful because these games can be super volatile. The reels are also faster on this one relative to others we’ve tried, so the money can go faster.
Also common on Megaways games, and present here, is a cascading reels feature. When you have a win, you’re paid for the win, and then those symbols are removed, allowing other symbols to drop in. If there’s another win, that win is paid, and another cascade occurs, until there’s no winning pays to offer, in which the spin is complete.
Each reel can be anywhere from 2-7 spaces. The middle four reels have an additional space atop it guaranteeing a third space, so the middle four reels can be 3-7 spaces. With 7 symbols on each reel, and an all ways pays format, that’s how you achieve the 117,649 ways to win. Of course, most spins have a more moderate amount of ways to win.
The game features a mystery symbol, which can reveal one of the 10 basic pay table symbols. There are also wild symbols, which can only appear in the four reel spaces above the main reels. And finally, the diamond serves as a scatter symbol, of which at least four are needed to trigger the bonus.
Free Spins
Scatter symbols appear only on the six main reels (and not in the spaces above the reels). Four or more scatter symbols trigger the Free Spins. More than one scatter symbol can appear on a single reel.
Another component of most Megaways games is the Increasing Win Multiplier that occurs during the free spins. This is present in Almighty Buffalo Megaways, but this time, there’s a twist.
Players are offered a volatility choice on the Free Spins. Players can choose between four options:
- 15 free spins with the Increasing Win Multiplier starting at 1x. (Each additional scatter symbol above the four required will add 4 spins to this option.)
- 10 free spins with the Increasing Win Multiplier starting at 5x. (Each additional scatter symbol above the four required will add 2 spins to this option.)
- 5 free spins with the Increasing Win Multiplier starting at 10x. (Each additional scatter symbol above the four required will add 1 spin to this option.)
- Mystery Choice: 6 options will be shuffled into panels, and the player’s pick will determine how many free spins and what the starting multiplier will be. Three of the choices are for spins (matching the 5, 10 and 15 options above) and three are for the starting multiplier (matching the 1x, 5x and 10x above).
Players can therefore decide if they want to start with a higher multiplier, but with the risk that the few spins that they do get deliver wins, or have more spins to even out the ups and downs of the bonus, but starting with a 1x multiplier.
During the bonus, each cascade will increase the win multiplier by 1x, starting from wherever the choice began. So, a lot of cascades can boost the wins significantly.
The scatter symbols move to the four spots above the main reels. Three scatter symbols add five spins to your remaining spin count, and four scatter symbols will add 10.
Buy a Bonus
Another somewhat unique feature to this game is you can do a Bonus Buy for 100x your bet level. (You can adjust your bet level to adjust the corresponding Bonus Buy price, and the bonus will be based on the bet level selected.)
The game’s pay table for the site we reviewed indicated a higher return to player (RTP) by about a half a percentage point over the game overall, which can help a bit given bonus buys themselves can be pretty volatile.
