It’s becoming more common that popular slot machines will see a high limit version of the game be released, and to come out closer and closer to the original game’s release as well. A player wondered if there’s a benefit to playing one over the other:
Is it better to play the high limit version of a game or the lower limit version? For example, Huff N’ More Puff is offered at my local casino in .01-.10 denominations and the high limit one is .05- plus. When I play .10 in the high limit room the minimum bet is $7.50 but when I play it on the regular floor it’s only $5. Why is that?

Generally speaking, given the choice between a high and low limit version of a game, it’s better to play the high limit version, as it’s more likely that the payback percentage will be better.

Fans of Brian Christopher were pretty split when polled on his YouTube page about high limit slots. Half don’t play them, but half at least sometimes do.
Some casinos don’t graduate their paybacks on each bet level, but set paybacks based on the base denomination. Since we as players don’t know which casinos do that, given a choice where there’s dimes on a low limit version and dimes on a high limit version, it would be better to play high limit.
Now, as you noted, that could mean a difference in the number of lines. The reason they differ is the dime denomination is the “low” bet on the high limit version, and the “high” bet on the low limit version.
Makers will tend to reduce lines on higher limit versions to make the game a bit less tough on the bankroll, but the whole point of high limit is to bet higher. So basically in the case of Huff N’ More Puff added a 0 to all the denominations, and the $7.50 bet is the high limit equivalent of 75 cents on the low limit version.
By offering different options in low and high limit formats, it gives more of a reason for the high limit machine to exist. Other games like Dragon Link operate similarly, where you get 50 lines on nickel or dime denomination vs. the 25 the standard low-limit version offers.
So that’s the basic idea as to why they exist, and which one to play, presuming your bankroll supports that level of bet!
