One of the more original aspects of Gaming Arts’ machines is that they can be paired with a multi-stage set of “must hit by” progressives called the Rocket Rollup.
“Must hit by” progressives are special in that they declare an upper limit that a progressive must be awarded by to be won. In many (but not all) cases, when a must hit by progressive is established, a number is selected within the range of outcomes, and grows when wagers are made.
When the progressive reaches its trigger point, it awards the progressive to the player that made the wager, resets, and selects a new outcome within the range for the next progressive to be awarded.
Because that win point can be literally anywhere in the range, that yields some interesting scenarios. We witnessed two fans at the Plaza win the top must hit by progressive, stage 3, literally back to back, during one visit.
With the Rocket Rollup feature, they’re designed to be awarded more frequently than other must hit by progressives out there, so you can also see it progress pretty quickly.
For Brian, watching for some stage 3 possibilities has become sport, as you can see in some of his videos playing his game, Brian Christopher’s Pop’N Pays More, which in most installations features the Rocket Rollup feature.
One aspect of a must hit by progressive is the information is at your disposal. Brian sat down at a bank that had already progressed quite far up the stage 3 ladder, and as it happened in this first video he was awarded it within a minute of sitting down.
This video shows an example of the top progressive going off early, but it also shows an example of in a short session Brian winning all three of the Rocket Rollup progressives!
The next one is a more typical example – the video is almost 45 minutes long, and it takes more than ⅔ of the way through the video (with a couple of stage 1 progressives hit along the way) before the stage 3 progressive is won.
This final one was captured more recently during the 1 Year Anniversary live stream of the game, and Brian shocked viewers by not only landing stage 3, but also stage 1 at the same time!
While Brian does play his game a lot, it still underscores how frequently those progressives are available relative to other machines – the frequency of hitting progressives on many other games isn’t this frequent, so if you’re a fan of that sort of chase this can be a great game to go after it!

Are you able to hit one of these progressives during a bonus? Sometimes the bonus can go on awhile and you want to get back to being able to hit the progressive when it’s close to max!
Thanks for the question! Since the progressive increments based on your bets, and you’re not making any bets during the bonus, you’re not eligible for the progressive during the free spins. However, if you hit the progressive when you make the wager that delivers the free spins, you will be awarded it as well!
