Watch out when you get a big jackpot! Or at least that’s the warning one player gave us after Brian Christopher’s biggest casino win of all time:
I know people that work at casinos. Stay away for a while – they link your card and you will lose what you won.
Marvin J.
Good news players – that’s actually not true at all. There’s a few things wrong here, in fact.
First of all, a player is not obligated to play with a card. If a player’s card had any impact on slot payouts (they don’t, which we’ve covered here extensively in the past, and even confirmed with IGT that this isn’t an option), you could just theoretically play without.
This is why some players purposefully play without a card. But that superstition and erroneous belief costs players generous comps in the form of free play, gifts, food, hotel rooms and more, because casinos can only issue comps against the play they’re aware of.
Who’s playing a slot cannot and does not impact the slot’s payout. Don’t worry about the card.
Second, why only awhile? Does the player’s card curse wear off after a few months or something? If they are able to do something (they aren’t), wouldn’t they simply just wait it out, however long?
But finally, casinos don’t need to do all this, and the reason is pretty simple: The house edge.
Over time, that slot will still make the casino money, even if in the short term it paid out more. A casino like MGM Grand Detroit has thousands of slot machines. For every slot machine that pays out big like this, there’s dozens that had a make money day that more than make up for it, especially in the long term.
Slots have among the most generous house edges for the casino. So all they need to do is let people keep playing it. They actually love that players get wins like Brian’s as it’s great for marketing – articles were written about it in the aftermath of his big win.
That will help other players feel comfortable that you can win there, and that people actually do. That’s why you see casinos regularly showcasing pictures of players with those big checks.
So ultimately, there’s nothing to fear – Brian’s not in the winning column for 2024 despite that massive end of year hit, and the casino isn’t going to target him because of it – they know that as he continues to play, they’ll make money on him and others, and they don’t need to do a thing for that to work out in their favor in the end.

Not sure about all of this. But let me tell you I have been loosing big time every single time I have gone to the casino after I hit a jackpot. I am pretty sure the casino has something to do with that. I t almost seems like they are determent to get their money back.
We can assure you that they’re going to make their money back just by encouraging you to play – slots are designed to make money for the casino. They don’t have any control on what pays when – they just set it to what percentage they want to make and let them do their thing.
