One of IGT’s recent success paths has been to lean in to ideas that resonate with slot players. Base Game
King Khufu carries forward the same 6×4 reel set as the game that inspired it, offering an immersive Egyptian theme that shines through across the entire game. The middle reel can feature super-sized symbols, which are there to help players achieve special features within the game.
Three pots appear above the reels featuring Boost, Grow and Roll. These offer enhancements to the Lock & Respin feature.
Wild Expand
At an initial glance, players may be surprised to see no natively appearing wilds on the reels. But don’t worry – wilds have an important role to play. That’s because one regularly occurring feature is the ability for a pay table symbol to be able to turn wild. (Fans of IGT’s game Solar Disc will be familiar with the concept.)
But the Wild Expand feature also has the ability to turn symbols in up to four directions wild as well, expanding the presence of wilds on reels and leading to some pretty impressive wins just in the base game.
While the Wild Expand feature keeps the gameplay fun while you play the base game, King Khufu features a generous assortment of other bonuses and features to strive for.
Bonus Wheel
Most slot players love a good wheel spin, but one of the great things about King Khufu is you get to spin multiple times. There’s 24 spaces on the wheel. Once you take your first spin, some spaces will turn into exit symbols. Then you spin again – if you hit another prize, you win that too, and more spaces turn into exit symbols. The process continues until you land on an exit symbols.
Not only are credit prizes on offer, but here you can win one of the four bonus prizes shown on the top screen, consisting of two progressive jackpots and two static prizes.
Free Games
The King Khufu Free Games gives players a choice of three options for the bonus. This is effectively a volatility choice:
- 20 free games, where wilds expand vertically
- 10 free games, where wilds expand vertically and horizontally
- 5 free games, where wilds expand vertically, horizontally and diagonally, offering a 3×3 clump of wilds
20 free games gives you more chances to make something happen, but the wilds don’t spread out as much on a given spin. On the other hand, 5 free games can get exciting quick, but the wilds need to show up in force because you only have a few games to make a big win happen. Still, it’s nice to have that choice, depending on how you’re feeling or how your casino session is going.
Lock & Respin Feature
Coins with the catalyst symbol in the middle reel will trigger the Lock & Respin Feature, but any one coin can also randomly set off one of the three pots above the reels, awarding the feature with its matching upgrade. The ability for a surprise trigger of the feature is an exciting addition.
There are three upgrades available to help you during the Lock & Respin feature:
- Grow: When a Grow orb lands, it will grow the prize that originally landed on its symbol.
- Roll: If you land a Roll orb, it will roll through values until it stops and reveals the prize.
- Boost: When a Boost orb lands, it will upgrade one or more other prizes on the reels with the value that landed on its orb.
Combined with a larger array of spaces for prizes to drop vs. many slots featuring this mechanic, the upgrades can really help the feature soar.
