As the originator of the three-pot format, as well as the hold and spin, it’s natural that Aristocrat would blend the two together. Coin Trio Fortune Trails was their first effort to do so, and as with many games by the popular slot designer, it took off.
Coin Trio Fortune Trails is now available online, with a few tweaks to fit the online format. Let’s explore, and discuss where you can play online.
Base Game
Much of the structure is what you’ll remember seeing on the casino floor. The 5×3 reel set and the Reel Power (all ways pays) setup is the same as its physical casino counterpart, as is the mix of royal symbols and premium ones, along with the firecracker wild symbols.
Stacked symbols on the reels (including stacks of wild symbols) help improve the wins, and the stacked symbol wins do come out reasonably often, making the base game helpful for keeping things going in this case, unlike many recent three-pot games.
There’s also the three coins, connected to the coins outside the reels, which are attached to the bonuses. But more on that in a moment.
The biggest changes here revolve around the jackpots above the reels and the bet levels. To the former, instead of their being progressives, there’s four static prizes, which change with your bet level. So your overall chances of winning one are identical at any bet level. These jackpots are available as part of the Hold and Spin Bonus
For your bets, minimum bet here is 50 cents, with bet increments in that direction, as opposed to the 88 credit increments found in physical casinos. That means for lower bettors, there’s more accessibility, and smaller steps between bet levels.
Hold and Spin Bonus
The three pots are connected to the hold and spin bonus, and it’s triggered via coin symbols on the reels. There are three colors, connected to the matching coins outside the reels, and a unique upgrade attached to each color. Any one coin can trigger the bonus, with the matching upgrade being awarded:
- Koi Feature: When a blue coin awards the bonus, the Koi Feature is awarded. One blue coin is added at the start, which spins around with increasing prizes (including the Mini and Minor, or Major starting with the second blue coin) until it stops spinning and awards the prize shown. Additional blue coins can land during the bonus, repeating that process.
- Tiger Feature: When a green coin awards the bonus, the Tiger Feature is awarded. One green coin is added at the start, which awards all prizes, which are collected into the coin. Additional green coins can land during the bonus, repeating that process.
- Dragon Feature: When a red coin awards the bonus, the Dragon Feature is awarded. One red coin is added at the start, which multiplies all locked prizes by 2, and then reveals a credit prize on its own coin. Additional red coins can land during the bonus, repeating that process.
Like with many three-pot games, multiple coins can be triggered against a single bonus, which means multiple upgrades are enabled on a single bonus. This means there are seven unique bonuses available.
The hold and spin is pretty standard – you get three spins to land another coin (which can be a credit prize, a Mini and Minor jackpot, or Major after the initial bonus trigger). If you successfully land another coin, the counter resets to three spins.
Your bonus ends when you either fill all 15 spaces (which awards the Grand jackpot), or when you run out of spins. All prizes collected are then added up and awarded.
