The 2026 MLB season is underway, and teams have spent the first few days getting acclimated to the rigors of the season. As of Monday, all 30 teams are in action to kick-off the week, setting the stage for a full slate of action tonight.
We’re breaking down the betting odds, offering our preferred wagers for tonight’s action!
Tampa Bay Rays vs Milwaukee Brewers
Moneyline: Rays +116 | Brewers -134
Spread: Rays +1.5 (-205) | Brewers -1.5 (+168)
Total: 7.5 Over (-102) | Under (-120)
The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays kicked off their inter-league set with a Monday night thriller. Tuesday marks the triumphant return of Shane McClanahan, and we expect the Rays to make the most of his return.
McClanahan hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2023. Recurrent arm issues have kept him out of the lineup, but the former Cy Young candidate appears to be back in shape to start 2026. At his best, McClanahan is virtually unhittable. In his last season, he ranked in the 85th percentile in chase percentage and 92nd percentile in whiff rate. Toting a 25.8% strikeout rate and 44.6% ground ball rate, he should be able to stymie the Brew Crew.
We also have to give credit to Tampa’s lineup. Rays hitters are ripping the ball off the cover to start the season, compiling a .313 batting average. They’ve had their fair share of hard-hit balls, with 10 extra-base hits, including five home runs. That will serve them well against Brandon Woodruff who gave up seven long fly balls in 32.0 innings pitched at home last season.
Tampa Bay’s plate supremacy should continue on Tuesday night. We’re backing them as plus-money underdogs in Milwaukee.
Best Bet: Rays +116
New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals
Moneyline: Mets -158 | Cardinals +134
Spread: Mets -1.5 (+110) | Cardinals +1.5 (-132)
Total: 7.5 Over (-114) | Under (-106)
The New York Mets got off on the right foot, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals in last night’s series opener. They will be looking to extend their record to 4-1 with another victory at Busch Stadium tonight.
The Mets are operating a peak efficiency to open the campaign. They rank top 10 in OPS, recording 14 extra-base hits through the first five games of the season. As expected, that correlates with top-end run production and a balanced attack throughout the order. With Andre Pallante and his 4.30 expected ERA on the bump, the Mets won’t slow down in St. Louis.
At the same time, Kodai Senga can be counted on to lead them to victory on the mound. The Japanese national continues to deceive with his ghost forkball, sitting among elite company in expected batting average, whiff rate, and ground ball percentage. The Cardinals’ inexperienced lineup will face challenges all night.
The Mets are deserving favorites, but their chances of winning are greater than the betting line implies. We’re grabbing a piece of New York on the moneyline.
Best Bet: Mets -158
San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres
Moneyline: Giants -144 | Padres +122
Spread: Giants -1.5 (+122) | Padres +1.5 (-146)
Total: 7.5 Over (-114) | Under (-106)
Not even the pitcher friendly confines of Petco Park can save German Marquez from the perils of his ineffective metrics. The San Francisco Giants will have no problem getting to the veteran righty in tonight’s NL West showdown versus the San Diego Padres.
Analytically, there aren’t many big league pitchers worse than Marquez. He ranks in the third percentile or worse in expected ERA, hard-hit rate, and expected batting average, refelected in his traditional stats. Marquez hasn’t finished with an ERA below 6.70 since 2023.
While Logan Webb is typically a top-tier arm, his season-opener leaves a lot to be desired. The righty gave up nine hits and seven runs in 5.0 innings of work versus the Yankees, exacerbating some of his more notable concerns. Webb gives up a ton of hard contact, including a 40.2% hard-hit rate and 8.3% barrel rate. Those metrics will come back to haunt him in San Diego.
Both of these lineups can produce offensively, and we don’t have reason to believe in either starter. We’re betting on some offensive fireworks at Petco Park, with this intra-divisional clash going north of the total.
Best Bet: Over 7.5 -114
