You’ll often see a number of machines of the same theme or type grouped together. A player wonders who that impacts payouts:
If there is a group of say 3 slot machines are they all connected to one bank? For example: if a machine next to me hits a huge payout will mine go dead?

Your machine won’t go dead for the same reason a single machine won’t go dead – future outcomes aren’t impacted by past outcomes.
First, let’s review how a traditional slot machine works – each slot machine has a random number generator, and it’s generating numbers in the hundreds or thousands per second. The moment you hit the Spin button, whatever number is generated is matched to an outcome and that’s what you see appear on the reels.
Games are designed so that any outcome is available at any time – the odds of something happening are the same on the next spin as the previous spin. So, you could get the same outcome back to back – even though the odds of it are small, it’s possible.
When machines are banked, they still have their own RNG running inside each of the machines, so there’s nothing shared around that aspect of things. What could be shared are progressive amounts – each of the machines contribute to a progressive that’s shared across machines, and any player could have the opportunity to win that growing progressive amount within that bank (or even multiple banks, depending on the casino).
The chances of winning that on any of the machines will be the same, presuming the same circumstances (such as the amount of the bet being the same). So anyone in a bank playing the same game at the same bet amount must have the same chances of winning that shared prize.
With that in mind, a huge payout on your own machine doesn’t mean it will go dead. And because each machine is independent of each other, a machine near you paying huge also doesn’t mean yours will go dead.
