If you’ve got friends who love to spend time in the high limit room, like Brian Christopher, it may be intimidating to walk in and struggle to find a game that can fit your budget.
But when you look more carefully, you can sometimes spot some opportunities to play in the room, as long as you choose your machine and your bets carefully.
Today we’ll cover five games that are great for lower bets in the high limit room. We tried to pick a mix of older and new games, and are a bit looser here with the term low rolling, given bets in the high limit room can rise into the hundreds of dollars. With that, let’s begin!
1. Double Diamond
Double Diamond is a classic game most commonly found in a single line format. It’s that format that has the best potential for low limit players in high limit for two reasons.
First off, it’s usually a 2 or 3 credit game. Even at $1 denomination, that works out to $2 or $3. But oftentimes the payouts for betting max credits are either identical, or nearly identical, meaning you’re not losing out on much by betting one credit, so doing $1 spins is a reasonable choice.
Plus, being on a $1 denomination machine, you can presume a higher payback percentage for being on a higher denomination machine vs. playing the same bet at a lower denomination.
2. Dancing Drums
In recent years Dancing Drums has been finding itself making its way into the high limit room as a 10 cent denomination game. That means max bet is $88 a spin – that’s a nice big high limit amount.
But you can spin for as low as 80 cents. Just activate the one gold symbol and do 8 credit spins (which at 10 cents works out to 80 cents a spin). With one gold symbol you don’t get access to the progressives, and most of your symbols are diminished in pay, but you get full pay for the gold coins, and when they come out strong, you can get paid quite well.
If your budget allows a bit more room, you can either up the bet to $1.80 by activating a second gold symbol, adding access to the mini in the process, or do a 2x line bet at $1.60 and get paid even more for the coins when they come out.
3. Double Top Dollar
The original Double Top Dollar, as a single line game, is another great game at $1 denomination with either 2 or 3 credits. We’ve found it in high limit rooms at 2 credits, which makes for a pretty accessible game, but 3 credit versions are also out there, which boost the line pays between bonuses by putting more credits against them.
The newer 9-line version is a harder swing at $1 denomination, but many casinos are implementing it as a multi-denomination machine, so if you can find it at quarter denomination, with a $2.50 bet, it holds up pretty well in that format too.
4. Dragon Link
The popularity of the Link games has led to a series of higher denomination offerings. Whereas Lightning Link is offered in a format that simply adds a 0 to all of the bet levels (meaning a $5 minimum bet on high limit version), more nuanced options launched for its cousin, Dragon Link.
It’s not unusual to find versions that start at nickel denomination, meaning a more accessible $2.50 a spin, and at that bet level, not only do you get 50 lines, but you also get access to bigger Major and Grand jackpots than on the lower denomination version.
It will be more difficult to hit those prizes on the higher limit version, as you’re minimum betting on a higher limit version vs. doing a more than minimum bet on the lower denomination options, but with higher progressives, if you win one, it’ll certainly be more substantial.
5. Multi-Line Ainsworth Games
Some newer Ainsworth machines let you select both denomination and line count. Usually the line choices are 5, 10 and 20 and the denomination 25 cent, 50 cent and $1. That makes the 5-line, 25 cent version a reasonable $1.25 a spin on popular games like Thunder Cash and Eagle Bucks.
The flexibility of this lets you decide if you want to up your bet multiplier and double down on the 5 lines, or add 5 more lines, if you want to increase your bet. Each has its pros and cons, but the fact that as a player you can decide is a nice touch.

I enjoy your content, and you are funny to watch. I am going to Las Vegas for 9 days for my Birthday in May. This will be our 6th trip there. We have never bet more than $5 per spin and our budget going there will be around $8000. I think i have been playing all wrong. Mostly penny machines at 1 cent at $5 or less. I would love to get more than our highest hand pay of $1,400, but i also don’t want to break the bank on the first night we are there. That’s a pretty healthy budget. Our best advice falls into two categories really – play where you want to stay, and divide your budget into segments. For the former, we of course recommend the smokefree casinos (Park MGM and the Brian Christopher Slots at Plaza area), but you should make sure you do a chunk of your play at the casino(s) where you hope to have offers in the future. Almost $1,000 a day as a budget should yield decent offers from casinos. Denomination is hard to say because bet ranges are all over the place now, but if you want to be able to play for hours, a sweetspot on that budget is going to be somewhere around $3 a spin – that gives you a decent chance to be able to play for awhile and not run out of money, and you can always up your bet if you’re doing well. Machines, we recommend playing what you find fun – slots have different designs for different types of players, so seek out what keeps it fun for you!
