How does a rumor get started? Something like this. One person smacks a machine really hard, and they land the bonus. They then tell 5 friends, who tell 5 friends that it works – when it fact, it had zero impact on the outcome. The same is true about this statement:
If you turn up the volume on your machine by exactly 8.2%, this significantly increases your chances of hitting a jackpot.
NEVER trust fuzzy advice like this, although sadly, many do. Then, as people share this “information,” over time, this morphs into “If you max out your volume, you have an 8.2% better chance of winning a jackpot.”
The game of telephone is lovely, isn’t it? As people pass along the fuzzy advice, it becomes more believable sounding to some players. And as such that’s the myth we see today, the one that sends hundreds of people to Google daily trying to figure out if this is real.
Too bad it hasn’t got a lick of truth in reality.

Konami video games may have been famous for their cheat codes in the 80s and 90s (up up down down left right…) but there are no Konami cheat codes on their slots. Payouts are not influenced by anything we do as players – they’re baked into the design of the games that casinos opt to put on their floors.
It’s that little bit of superstition that players love to have – that their choice of game, buttons they pressed, and so on have some sort of influence on the outcome. And in many cases, in particular slot machine volume, that just doesn’t bear out.
One aspect that players love to bring up is that many YouTube slot channels will turn the volume up – if it’s not true, why do they do it? Aside from ensuring the game’s volume is picked up on camera, it can help drown out background music, which can get in the way of a channel’s ability to make money because the music is owned by someone else. So it’s a simple business decision to turn the slot up.
This is also why some channels will avoid games that have copyrighted music built in, particularly licensed games that use original music from a movie, TV show, etc. Also, it’s just more fun and exciting with louder music and big win sounds!
So if the game you approach has its slot machine volume turned down or not working, don’t fret – it will have no impact on whether you win or not. It may make the game less fun to not have the volume loud, but it won’t help or hurt your chances of winning.

When i play a machine i need sound! It builds up excitment to play more.
I win better with sound!
That’s certainly a reasonable request – while it won’t change the pays, it does impact the fun of a game for many (and we’re in that camp too!). Thanks for your comment!
volume had absolutely nothing to do with it. It is the RNG Guys!!!
Darned straight! Thanks for posting!
Is it legal for the staff to turn down my pokie machine volume while I’m on the bonus game. I paid to play. I got upset they made me not want to play
There’s no laws or gaming regulations around this, so this wouldn’t be something against the rules, but we certainly understand how it might lower your enjoyment of the casino visit!
