Even when predetermined bonuses are in the picture, the random number generator (RNG) still has a role to play:
Can you explain the difference between timing and the random generator in the machine, versus knowing that 99/100 times you’re getting the mini on Dancing Drums?
You picking the coins isn’t actually picking anything at all, right? If that were the case, your odds would be much, much higher, and we would see the Major and Grand hit way more often. So it’s not that unbelievable that there are other workings in a slot machine outside of a random generator, which affect odds and/or what a player encounters, correct?

On a game like Dancing Drums, the picking is indeed predetermined, and of course the Mini is by far the most frequent outcome you’ll encounter. The RNG still factors into if and when you get the bonus, and the outcome that will be on offer when you get it. So it’s not outside the purview of the RNG at all.
If you take the bonus out of the equation, the random number generator comes into play every time you make a wager by hitting the spin button. On the reels itself, the most frequent outcome will be a losing spin. Lower paying spins will come out more often than higher paying ones. And so on.
The way Dancing Drums is designed, when a wild appears and sends fu bats up to the pot with coins, the pot can close and trigger the bonus. At the time the wager is placed and the outcome is determined on a game like this, it knows a wild will appear, the pot will close, and the picking bonus will yield that Mini.
The easiest way to think about it is that they could have instead put progressive prizes on some of those wilds. The reels could land, you would see a Mini, and you would win that prize. Instead, they opted for a more elaborate presentation to build the suspense, but either presentation would work identically, for the purposes of the RNG.
So ultimately, it’s not going outside the purview of the RNG. Even predetermined bonuses still tie back to the RNG in some way – the fact you got that bonus at all is thanks to the RNG and the outcome that was delivered because of when you placed your wager.
