When it comes to MLB betting, there are plenty of options at the BetMGM online sportsbook.
The most popular, and most basic, is the moneyline bet, where you simply bet on the winner of the game. Another one is Over/Under runs, where you bet if the total number of runs scored is Over or Under a certain number. You can see some of the most popular bets here.
But there are plenty more, including some unique ones.
Here’s a look at five of them.
YRFI/NRFI
This is betting on the outcome of the first inning and whether or not a run(s) will be scored. It doesn’t matter which team scores — just that a run is scored.
NRFI means no run first inning, so you’re betting that no runs will be scored in the first inning. On the other hand, YRFI means yes run first inning, so you’re betting that at least one run will be scored in the first inning.
Batter Hits
This market is how many hits a batter will have in a given game. Typically, the market is either 1.5 hits for star players and .5 for other players.
For example, if Aaron Judge has an Over/Under of 1.5 hits for a game against the Red Sox and he records two hits, the Over would be a successful bet.
Player First Plate Appearance
Prior to any game, you can bet on the result of a player’s first plate appearance.
For example, you can bet on what Juan Soto will do the first time he steps to the plate in a given game. Typical odds may look like the following:
- In play out/error: +138
- Walk/hit by pitch: +360
- Strikeout: +360
- Single: +750
- Double: +2200
- Triple: +5000
- Home run: +1150
First 3/5/7 Innings
Instead of betting on the result of the entire game, you can bet on the winner after the third, fifth and seventh inning.
For example, if the Dodgers are beating the Padres 4-3 after the third inning and you bet on the Dodgers for the first three innings market, you would win the bet. Even if the Dodgers lost the game, the bet would be settled after the third inning.
The same applies to the fifth and seventh inning markets.
Final Score Odd or Even
This is pretty simple: whether the total of the final score is odd or even.
For example, if you bet odd for the Red Sox-Yankees game and the Yankees won 7-2, the bet would be declared a winner since 7 + 2 = 9.
